Trend Du Jour: Black and Gold in Savannah
What to wear to the ball? Black and Gold.
Luxe dresses in black and gold were the trend of the night at the Telfair’s Monte Carlo 2014. Monte Carlo, a charity gambling event, held at the Telfair Academy in downtown Savannah, was a great start to Savannah’s busy event season.

Savannah’s finest young professionals donned their gowns and tuxes to gamble with “funny money” and get down to the sounds of A Nickel Bag of Funk, a local Savannah band with real soul!

Besides Leslie from A Nickel Bag of Funk (who absolutely stole the show with her soulful voice), the highlight of the night was getting a chance to eye all of the splendid dresses at the first black tie event of the fall.
The theme was “La Belle Époque” (for non- art majors read: French Riviera circa 1871-1914) and the black and gold dresses were stunning. This is my favorite fall color combo hands down. Classic but glamorous- you can’t go wrong. Here are some of my favorites from the ball:
Catherine wore this black and gold gown that was classy but edgy. The embellishments made the dress eye catching and elegant all at once. The luxe leather and tulle combo made it my favorite dress of the night.
Courtenay’s “gold curves” dress flattered her figure and added a little sparkle.
I spotted several black lace dresses with a gold underlay, like the one Emily is wearing (above left). My dress (above right) was a fun little number from Sue Wong that was covered in tassels (my fav!) that were made of ribbon. It was a really fun dress to wear and I thought it was an appropriate nod to the event’s theme this year.
Ashley’s black and gold dress was figure flattering and fun, especially with her headband- definitely in keeping with the theme. And while you’re at it, please check out Tyler’s shoes. Yes, they are velvet and yes, they are embroidered in gold. Even the guys got in on the trend!

Sarah’s dress also kept with the black lace over gold trend. The architectural details at the top made it modern , conservative, and fun.

To learn how you can get involved with the Telfair or the Telfair’s young professionals group, the William Jay Society, go to Telfair.org . Several times a month we have events that involve libations and great art. If you like either of those things, we hope you’ll join us!
Please join us on October 16th at 5:00 P.M. for October’s ‘Art on Tap’ event, which will feature craft beer from Coastal Empire Beer Co. and will give you a chance to see the new fall exhibits at the Telfair’s Jepson Center and try some lovely hors d’ouevres from the Telfair’s Cafe. Come on… art and beer. How could this be bad?
