I’m A Part-Time Pinterest Mommy

I’m a part-time Pinterest Mommy.

What exactly do I mean by that? In today’s world of mommy bloggers and creative types putting their ideas out in to the world for all to see, attempt, and criticize, I’m one of the ones who many times looks at these ideas and says “Oh wow- that would be really cool but I don’t have that kind of time”. Or “jeez- this lady must have WAY too much time on her hands.” But over the past couple of weeks I realized that I, too, am that obnoxious mommy type.

It dawned on me the first time when I ended up helping with a friends bridal shower, offering to host it at my grandmother’s house. Antique china was washed, silver polished, and the crystal set out. I would also blame this on being in “high performance mode” in general because I had just wrapped up an opening for a client and I was pretty much in full swing panic mode. What does that mean?

That means I went waaaaaaaay overboard and turned to a few places to help me with catering. I have to say, Harpin’s, Fountain of Juice,  and The Moonhanger Group did a beautiful job. There were chicken skewers with lavender infused honey, deviled eggs, two types of quiche, shortbread and blondes and brownies. Did I stop there? No of course not- because panic was setting in. Because I had just enough time to think about it and not enough time to digest it down a bit.

This means that when I started to think of beverages and wasn’t sure how many people were coming I only wanted a couple of bottles of wine but wasn’t sure if it would be enough. Solution? A berry white sangria, recipe found online:

  • Muddled blueberries and strawberries, crushed and placed at bottom of a crystal bowl
  • 1 bottle dry white wine ( I used Sauvignon Blanc)
  • Sliced peaches (that was my own addition)
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/2 raspberry vodka
  • More chopped strawberries, blueberries added in

I will say- it was potently lovely. And a big win and easy to replicate!

What also happened was- well I was in Warner Robins the evening before and I gotta say, their Kroger trumps all the ones I’ve been to in Macon. I got blueberry compote cheese, spiced havarti and more for a cheese spread. Did I mention I went overboard?

So yeah- attack of the part-time Pinterest Mommy.

I was still riding the high of a successful bridal shower and a series of well executed events for clients when round came my turn to provide snacks for soccer. Again, I would turn to Google. I mean, were oranges really the best thing after soccer? I saw Tatiana Maslany’s Alison Hendrix cutting up oranges for her kiddos game in Orphan Black but was that really a good thing to do? Turns out, there’s a whole friggin list of the best snacks and they were broken down according to the time of day.

Crap.

So I read this while in the middle of  the dreaded Wal-Mart a.k.a. the Seventh Circle of Hell and I am walking along and see raisins.

Ok cool, raisins would be easy enough. Where are oranges?

Still no oranges- hey! There’s some Mickey Mouse shaped cheese, the article says string cheese is good…. my kid is too picky for that but I bet these kiddos would like this. And I’ll get wheat crackers.

Where are the damn crackers? Oh there’s pita bread! I could make little sandwiches, ok turkey, cheese slices, and spinach. That’s two things of cheese but oh well.

Hey there’s angry birds graham crackers. That’ll make for something light and sweet.

Water- need mini waters- oh HEY there’s V-8 juice. I’ll get that it’s somewhat natural, I think. And water. Where are the oranges?

No oranges are you serious?! Well, I guess mini sandwiches and graham crackers and cheese and crackers are enough.

Damn it. I’m that asshole mom who went way overboard. I hope the other parents don’t hate me.

So, this is why I say I’m a part-time Pinterest Mommy…. cause lord knows I can’t pull this off all the time. Three weeks of it and I’m exhausted. Kiddos might not get handmade in the bread maker bread this week.
