Trying New Things: Vatica Indian Restaurant

I’ve had friends give me grief because I don’t try enough different types of cuisine- which I don’t believe to be totally true however there are some things I could get better about. Like eating more Eastern foods. I’ve really only been to the Indian restaurant in Macon twice, and I like it- but I thought while I was in Atlanta this week I really should try something new. And so I did.

I used the Zomato app to find something near my office, because driving 10 miles for lunch in Atlanta is a hell of a lot different than doing it in Macon, and I found Vatica Indian Restaurant within just a few miles.

The website was really easy to navigate, and explained that they have an unlimited lunch buffet with their “thali”. The website says ” Thali – An Indian meal made up of a selection of dishes served on a steel plate. Typical dishes in a thali include an appetizer, rice, dal, lentils or beans, vegetables, potatoes, roti or puri, raita and a sweet item”. Ok cool sounds good to me.

I was more wanting to just grab something to go, but once I got there I think that might have been lost in translation but they definitely knew it was my first time and graciously showed me to a table where I decided hey- I might as well just sit down and get away from my computer for a little bit.

So, I’ll be honest, I had a hard time hearing the gentleman who was explaining the menu to me- but I do know the vegetable at the top (marked as seasonal on the menu) was some kind of a squash. And the item at the bottom left was some type of cold fried item with jalapenos in it.

All of it was yummy, I cleared my plate- and it was a lot of food and I generall eat like a bird. They even circled back around and asked if I needed more rice to go with the other items. Since I was full I declined their offer, but I was really just very happy with the good, simple, inexpensive lunch and lovely hospitality.

I know I’ll be back for sure!
