Summer Flowers + Easy Entrance Way Decor

I love gardening, but I love even more to plant items that come back year after year. It makes me feel like my yard is an investment and that the work I put into it will yield results for forever.

Last summer, my gardenias bloomed for the first time since I have moved into my home. I don’t quite know why they hadn’t before, they were there long before I moved in, but my theory is that once a garden is cared for then it will produce results.

Gardenias have a light floral scent which is fantastic for an entrance way. Just as soon as you or a guest steps in they can be greeted by just a hint of summer sweetness.

I took mine and combined them with the giant hydrangeas that my boyfriend has in his yard. I just planted my first hydrangea, and so it’s not quite established, but his are large and thriving.

I learned about the art of layering flower heights in a class by Mary Pinson so as to create movement in the piece, just like a work of art. I actually got this tall gold vase from her class, but I really like this one from Anthropologie as well.

The blues of the hydrangea offset this painting, and the gold vase goes with the gold frame. You can easily replicate this look with a simple table in any part of your home and coffee table books. Just make sure you vase isn’t leaking otherwise you’ll end up with damaged books (obviously).

I also really like to pick up chinoiseries or milk glass pieces at estate sales. Often you can get them for just pennies on the dollar and fill them with flowers, I especially like to place them next to older photos of family members. It’s a nice way to draw additional attention to the photos. These happen to be, again, at my guy’s house.

And these are in my home. I’m also a big fan of finding various books to stack up. You may notice here I’ve got everything from a gardening book to one of my FAVORITES that my aunts gave me as a kid: Uppity Women of Ancient Times.

This painting is also special to me because it’s by my grandmother, and the candle is a custom candle from our Southern Bon Vivant line.

Small things like flowers in my home make me feel so much happier about being IN my home- that’s one thing I learned after having to be in it so much over the past year. Little things can really make a difference when it comes to make your house feel more like home, and that’s important.

Does this leave you feeling inspired to try it yourself? Let me know! I’d love to hear from you.
