Stretching For Your Soul (well, and body)

I am always interested in researching different methods of exercise and wellness. So, when I saw Allyson Moody’s Facebook page for her business “ It’s A Stretch” I decided to investigate more.  I reached out to her via email and the telephone and she was SO helpful and full of information. Here is the email transcript that I got from Allyson:

I thought attending the Stretch Therapy workshop might help me learn how to help myself (I had no idea how right I was).

Kit Laughlin is very famous in Australia.  His website is www.kitlaughlin.com and I would call him my teacher.  He invented Stretch Therapy.

Stretch therapy can be very beneficial to anybody, and focuses on re-mapping the neural patterning.  Here is a quote from Kit himself (taken from his website):

About Stretch Therapy™

Applications of the ST approach span rehabilitation of specific physical problems, through development of more efficient alignment and movement patterns, all the way to improvement of elite athletic performance. Everyone will find themselves somewhere on this continuum!

We say that ST is a safe, yet extremely efficient, way to improve your flexibility, but that’s only a convenient way to open the dialogue. As one starts to work with the body, new needs will be uncovered and you will find yourself pulling on one of the many strands of the ST approach. Everyone’s path is unique, and our approaches reflect this reality.

ST is practiced by thousands of people worldwide, and is suitable for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.

As for moving, we did that last week. Cor Pilates, where I work (and where Pilates classes are available), is located at 4444 Forsyth Road, next to Jeanine’s restaurant.  I hope to launch a stretch therapy class series in the fall, and plan to limit it to eight participants so that people will be comfortable enough to ask for modifications and work at their own pace all the while I can watch and correct form if necessary.

I think that people who are hesitant are hesitant for different reasons, so it is difficult to say what I might say to somebody who was hesitant without knowing why.  We are all different, and have different things and limitations going on in our bodies.  Some folks may be hesitant because they have not tried anything like it, and these folks may find the studio setting intimidating.  Others have perhaps been hurt by an instructor who was not experienced, and they are rightly concerned about their safety.  But, it boils down to this:  everybody is welcome in the Cor Pilates studio, and we know that this work can make people feel better.

Please let me know if I can answer any additional questions.  Also, you can find more about the Kit Laughlin workshop on the Cor Pilates website: www.corpilatesmacon.com  The early bird special price of $499 goes away on August 5th, and we only have ten spaces left (so move now to reserve your space!).  We have teachers, practitioners, and clients attending!

So, if you are interested, be sure to sign up NOW! After all, it’s good for everyone to try different types of physical activity. And as the title of this blog says, it’s not just good for your body- but your soul too, to find new ways to relax and push yourself.
