Ok, so to be fair this isn’t actually about Macon necessarily- although I did see a LOT of bona fide Maconites while I was out.
So I get the email: Tibi Sample Sale! February 19th! St. Simons Island!
Holy Hell- it’s freaking karma. I’m already supposed to be on the island that weekend! The last sample sale I made it to was two years ago (I had just found out I was preggo with B) and I got a $1000 dress on sale for $50. A hand beaded fully lined Tibi dress that I saw from 10 feet away and made a mad dash for it as if to say “I dare any of you b****** to get in my way or I will push you down.” Thankfully, it did not come to that. I even kept the price tag for proof!
Granted, I have only worn this dress once (to my friend and co-worker Katie Booth Ferguson’s wedding) but even if I had not worn it the $50 would have been well spent for the conquest.
Yes, I am a serious, I would spend $50 just to say I saved $950. Guys, don’t even try to understand this cause you won’t. Now I’m being a little facetious, I wouldn’t do than under any circumstances however this was a hand beaded dress from Tibi! Tibi is like my crack, I cannot get enough of it and when I go to the store I start to rummage through the dresses as if in a frantic need for a quick high. I might even start to twitch a little bit.
This time around, the kids were running me late getting out of town. We were going to get there 30 minutes after they opened. And I wasn’t sure if there would be anything good left! I’ve ALWAYS gotten there as soon as the doors are unlocked before. My hands became clammy and my teeth were clenched. We pull up and I get out as quickly as possible without breaking into a full on run and leaving Mom and the kids in the car. I maintained my ladylike composure.
Only a few ladies were there- thank god! I managed to grab several pieces and one very helpful lady assisted me as I was holding Lily Kate. She also went ahead and put me in line- something I was grateful for later as I got to skip ahead of a few girls.
By the time I got out of the dressing room the place was full on panic. You could see the animalistic behavior lurking underneath the ladies who were trying their best to stay composed as they reached through the discounted clothing items. The lady checking out in front of me had to have bought half of the sample sale for her daughter. I believe her total was about $2000.
As for me, I only got a few pieces. But my total was less than the cost of just one of the dresses. I came out whole and in piece- and triumphant from the hunt.
Some advice, get there when they open. Yes you will be “that person” but who cares! It’s a sale! And I’m also happy to say- I can officially wear a sample size again!YAY.
Follow up: Here is one of the dresses I bought at said sample sale-
