Trend Alert: Layering Necklaces

While I love the arm party look as much as anyone, for me, working at my laptop most of the day- the clanging of a neverending range of bracelets can be somewhat distracting. This look is most convienient for me when I am not banging away at my desk. Let’s be honest- that isn’t often. Not only that but the layered bracelet look is best when coordinating with the rest of your outfit, which means either matching or coordinating colors OR keeping the bulk of your outfit simple, thus allowing the bracelets to be the center of attention.

So what’s another multi-accessory look that isn’t SO distracting, and doesn’t take as much work? Layering necklaces. There’s a few ways to do this, and I declare this will be the next trend. Per me.

Right now I am wearing two silver necklaces- one is the Tiffany Colors by the Yard in aquamarine, the other a silver bow by Betsy Pittard Designs.

It’s my favorite at the moment and the silver chains are just different enough to not get tangled. I attempted to layer my Tiffany Colors by the Yard necklace with another Tiffany creation, the Elsa Peretti heart, but they became tangled rather often. My theory is because the chains were the same type.

I have layered the same Tiffany Colors by the Yard necklace with a multi strand Swarovski crysal necklace, which resulted in my first of two retweets by Tiffany’s. (Can you imagine my excitement?!) I have also layered by gold cross with a pendant of the plane my grandfather flew in WWII, along with a long multi pearl necklace.

Generally. to pull this look off you need metals of the same metal family- or jewels that coordinate with the metal of another necklace. But with designers such as David Yurman, who mixes metals within a same piece, we have been shown that different metals can be mixed together with some success. I prefer to keep it rather simple.

Either way, there’s so much that can be done with layering necklaces- especially when you get all different lengths together. So, what will we call this? Neck party? Naaaahhhh…. I dunno. I’m not always so great at tag lines. And not when I am about to go to sleep. Suggestions?

Til next time yall…
