The Blackest Nails: My Obsession

I have an obsession with black nail polish. I literally have three bottles in my purse right now, and about three more at home. I’ve been on the search for the perfect shade, something that’s not an outright hard core Gothic black, preferably something with a little shine and really ideally I would like one with a black glitter in it.

This has resulted in my buying anything anywhere near close to what I am looking for. Even shades of grey will work, as I like a darker look for my toes than on my fingernails.

Right now on my desk I have the three from my purse (EDIT: actually- four, there was one hiding).

First: Sally Hansen complete salon in Black Platinum

Sally Hansen Black Platinum, available at Target

I really like this color: it’s black without being too much, and it has a slight hint of glitter- albeit not enough for what I am looking for. It’s a good color for my toes and it doesn’t chip easily. I am lazy and don’t bother with a top coat or base, I guess I probably should.

Second:

OPI in Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine

So this one isn’t really black, it’s grey. But I still love it regardless. In my search for the perfect black polish I have occasionally drifted over in to finding the perfect shade of grey. (Shades of Grey… hmmm.) This is a really pretty color grey and would be flattering on most any skin tone.

Third:

butter LONDON Chimney Sweep

Their website describes this color as ” a proper charcoal grey… with a touch of metallic finish”. I would suppose this is correct, as it is not quite black and it does have the metallic finish. This is what I am wearing right now on fingers and toes. I am still wanting a touch of glitter though…

Four:

OPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Found it. I think. Finally. The glitter polish I have been looking for- perhaps. Although I have been wanting a polish with larger pieces of glitter. And oddly enough, even though this glitter appears black on my toes when I look at it in the light it appears more goldish-green. I have it on my toes now, and am about to put it on my fingers I think. Thing is- I am having a photo shoot with Sabrina Sikora tomorrow (http://sabrinasikoraphotography.com/ ) and I don’t want to screw up my nails. I guess I can always take off and reapply if need be but remember? I am lazy. Either way, never know til you try, right? Meanwhile I am still searching for my ever elusive most perfect shade of glittery black nail polish. Let me know if you find it.

I am a huge fan of black nail polish. You have to have the attitude to go with it though. Something tells me MakeItWorkMolly has it.

Hahaha thanks! As for the attitude- I suppose you would have to ask my friends.
