Super Bowl Cocktail: Hail Mary Michelada

So, by now most of you will have seen that we have a new cocktail writer on our site: Ryan Smith. I’m happy to tell y’all that he will be our new food and cocktail editor! Woo hoo!

In that “spirit” (haaaaa pun intended) here’s a Super Bowl inspired cocktail from Ryan, I have to thank him for allowing a group of us to come over to his place last night to play with cocktails and have some fun. With that said, here is the Hail Mary Michelada from Ryan:

Just when you thought that you’d never find something that pairs well with 7 Layer Nacho Dip, Carnitas, Brats, and Chili Cheese Fries.  No longer will you have to settle for a light beer so dull it might as well be water. The guys on the gridiron don’t shrink in front of the competition, why should you?  Reach for something as bold as they are.  Go for the long shot.  Make the big play. Beast Mode your beverage.

Hail Mary Michelada:

1oz Caramelized Onion & Bacon Fat Washed Crown Royale
0.5oz of Lime Juice {fresh}
0.5oz 1:1 Honey Simple Syrup
3 dashes of El Diablo Ancho Chili Pepper Tincture {homemade}
0.5oz Mexican Beer {Corona preferable}

~Combine Crown, Lime Juice, Honey Syrup, and El Diablo in your mixing tin
~Shake with ice until chilled, then strain into a small frosted Beer Mug
~Top with your Mexican Beer of Choice and Garnish with a Lime Wheel
~Enjoy

How to infuse Crown with Caramelized Onion & Bacon:
{Is it worth it? Bacon makes all things right.  Also, You’re an American. You should know better.}
1} Render 4oz of Fresh Bacon Fat
Caramelize 1/4 cup Sweet Vidalia Onion {diced} & 2 cloves of Garlic {minced} in fat over med/low heat.
2} Strain fat into a 12oz Mason jar, using a fine mesh sieve to remove and discard the solids.
3} Pour Crown Royal into the Mason Jar to fat wash.  Make sure your Crown is 2:1 with your fat.
In this case, that’s 8oz Crown Royale to 4oz Bacon Fat.
4} Seal the Jar, then give it a generous shaking before placing it in the fridge.  Keep in the fridge for about 15 to 20 min, or until fat has stratified to the top of the jar leaving your whiskey beneath it.
5} When you remove the lid, it should pull the fat out with it, but if not, just remove as much fat as possible from the top of the jar using a spoon.
6} Place a coffee filter in a fine mesh sieve and strain your whiskey through it into a measuring cup.
7} Make sure you’re sitting down. Take a whiff of your final product. Try not to pass out from the pure ecstasy you feel washing over you.
I can say myself- this was amazing. I wasn’t exactly sure how it would be, but the consensus among everyone was that this drink is a miracle. For real.

Love to all y’all,

      Glad you like it! The whiskey itself is so good, I actually went back and made another batch just to have. Haha.
