Sunday Thoughts and a Weekend Wrap Up

So, I’ve decided to make Sundays a time for some more introspective blog posts from me. Forgive me if these tend to jump around a bit.

The Jungle Book at Theatre Macon, Dovetail and Children’s Fashion

Last Sunday I took my kids to Dovetail, their first “nice fancy” restaurant. They were a bit all over the place until Laney made them their own, special from scratch lemonade. You won’t see that kind of service in many chains. ( Chick-fil-a and Starbucks are exceptions when it comes to personalized service.) I appreciate that type of thing. And my kids felt super special.

Aside from that, I dressed them all up before hand. My daughter is somewhat accustomed to getting dressed up, so when I put a bow tie and hat on my son he was SO excited because he saw me get excited. He’s still talking about it a week later, as his father was taking him to visit relatives in North Georgia (” I want to show Poppa and Granny Annie my bow tie and hat!”)- as much fun as I had this weekend, I miss my sweet babies and am excited to see them tomorrow.

For those of you with children, you may be interested to know that my kids outfits are a combination of items from The Gap (who is having a sale right now), Bailey Boys and Ralph Lauren. I like to get my son the pants that have the inside buttons so that I can get them large enough for him to wear the next year, and then hem the bottoms. The Gap and Ralph Lauren each carry those. My son is wearing a pair of pants that are by Ralph Lauren, with a Bailey Boys shirt- many times I buy my Bailey Boys items at their outlet on St. Simons Island. The hat was purchased on sale at The Gap, and the bow tie is by Vineyard Vines– from The Lollipop Shop. I got it 2 years ago and it has held up quite well.

For my daughter, she is wearing a pair of shoes I got on sale at Hop, Skip and a Jump here in Macon. Her skirt and tank top are both from The Gap, also on sale and so are her sunglasses. Her jewelry is from Stella and Dot and is one of her most prized possessions.

We were dressed up and went to Dovetail because Theatre Macon’s Youth Actors Company was putting on The Jungle Book. I love that we have events like that here, especially downtown, for children. my kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I think it’s really important to expose children at an early age to cultural activities. I’m hoping to take them individually to the Symphony this year, as they love to pretend that they are conductors during their music class.

Taste of the Arts 2013

I always like to look and see what Google searches bring people to my site. Today one was “why were people downtown dressed up like the 1920’s”- HA! Not sure how they missed one of the biggest parties of the year. It was amazing- more people present than last year, tons of great outfits. I was really pleased to see not just how many people dressed authentically for the period but how many people were able to improvise in a way that made sense. The food was amazing- I was especially impressed with the homemade peach concoction by the Macon Jazz Festival as well as friends Alex and Eleta Morrison’s pork for Historic Macon.

The Hummingbird

There was an amazing show at the Bird last night. The Sexual Side Effects performed a really fun set, and lead singer  Amber Taylor has an amazing voice. She also was kind enough to speak with me in between sets. The fire breathing show was really cool also- I got a short video below:

And as for next weekend…

Weaver’s Weekend and The Macon Beer Festival

I don’t think I’ll make it to the beer festival, I have yet to buy tickets and they are probably sold out however I will be at Weaver’s Weekend and I spoke with lead singer Thomas of Thomas Wynn and the Believers. I’m going to get to interview them! Do yall have questions for them? Let me know and I’ll ask!

For now,  I think I’ll take a nap…

Love to all yall,

Molly
