Preparing for New Year’s Eve: My Skincare Regimen for a Big Night

I pay very close attention to taking care of my skin every day regardless, but when there is a big night coming up I really try to kick things in to high gear- at least a week beforehand.

On an everyday basis, I try to really watch what I eat and put inside of my body. Yes, I love to cook (as you can see on another blog of mine http://wouldyoulikesomewinewiththat.blogspot.com  ) as of late but for the most part I stay away from junk. Here lately I have especially been in to GT’s Kombucha drinks (http://www.synergydrinks.com/ ) but for New Year’s Eve prep I have been trying to drink one a day and stick to only veggies and very little meat to eat. And LOTS of water to keep my skin hydrated. The GT’s Kombucha drinks contain lots of probiotics and antioxidants- some can even have more Omega acids than eating salmon. The taste does take getting used to, but it’s really worth it and I even enjoy the taste now. You can find them at Fountain of Juice or The Fresh Market in Macon.

As for what I put on my face- some of these tips may shock you. For one, I am so bad about picking at my face and it seems only a special event makes me aware of it. Anytime I have a blemish threatening to appear I will use an older container of toothpaste to dab on the spot. Seriously, it will generally make it go away. And if I have one that I already picked at and has scabbed over I have a solution for that too! The skin regenerating serum from the Bath and Body Work’s Wexler line is a miracle worker. (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2633014&cp=12587010.12936188.4305107 ) I absolutely swear by this stuff and it happens to be on sale right now.

I make sure to put this stuff on any kind of scab or any uneven places on my skin. Really, it’s good to use all over, too. If it’s a big night I will use this and then Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar before I put my cover up and foundation on.

Speaking of Hope in a Jar, that stuff freakin rocks my world. I only use it in the daytime though, because it’s so precious to me. For reals yall. It’s the only facial lotion I have found that if I use slightly too much of it, it won’t peel up on me and get funny. It’s also 99.9% oil free and trust me- you can tell.

For other occasions, or if I am opting out of makeup that day, I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. It’s my second fave behind Hope in a Jar for my face. As for my body, I cannot live without Kiehl’s Crème de Corps lotion. It’s pricey- but beyond worth it.

Now, I have gotten ahead of myself a bit. For cleaning my skin, after the toothpaste, if it’s the evening I will alternate between using Bath and Body Work’s Renewing Face Mask with Pumpkin from the True Blue line and Clean and Clear’s cleanser/facial mask combo. I also will employ a facial scrub such as the Apricot and White Tea scrub from Bath and Body Works or the scrub from the Wexler line. Even the St. Ive’s line will work- you can pick that up at nearly any grocery store. Also, the glycol peel from Bath and Body Work’s Wexler line is amazing as well. I aim to use that one once a week.

Another product I like is the Caolion “Where is Pore”? blackhead treatment that I previously reviewed here: http://makeitworkmolly.com/where-is-pore-blackhead-steam-pore-pack-by-caolion-from-wishtrend . It’s pretty amazing and actually works.

My favorite hair care line is Frederic Fekkai color treatment, but it’s expensive so I don’t use it every day. I’ll also use the new line that Heidi Klum promotes: Clean Shampoo and Conditioner. At least a few days before any big event, I’ll use the moisture mask from Fekkai on the ends of my hair and let it sit for at least a day. It’s good to not wash your hair every day, and this stuff helps my hair do this oh so cute flip at the ends when I pull it in a ponytail- so I don’t have the “I’m too lazy to wash my hair so it’s in a ponytail look” but rather “this is a bad ass ponytail and I am rocking it” look.

EDIT: I have also been using Obagi’s Elasti Lash and Latisse on my eyelashes- I have noticed some change but I also have been lazy and don’t use it every day. So- resolution- use everyday to give yall a better observation.(From Dr. Adair’s office in Macon, Georgia- thank you Stephanie Ollikainen.)

Well, now yall know some of my big event prep secrets- can’t wait to see all of you rockin it this New Year’s Eve! Feel free to share your own prep ideas here- remember: sharing is caring in the beauty world 😉
