Love Letter to My Hometown

Wow.

If you weren’t at Washington Park tonight- you were one of a few.

Macon, Georgia is a happening place- y’all. Tonight we were the hosts for Percy Sledge during the closing Second Sunday performance. Tomorrow we are hosts yet again for the new Music Ambassadors: Macon concerts featuring Bombadil. Make no doubt about it- Macon is experiencing a cultural Renaissance. From the many amazing restaurants such as the newest of serial entrepreneur Cesare Mammarella’s Circa on Forsyth Road to the eternal standby of Natalia’s on Bass and even the farm to table concept Dovetail of the growing Moonhanger Group, to our live theater productions which range from Macon Little Theatre to Theatre Macon and even the outdoor seasonal production of Spirits in October– make no doubt about it, our town in moving forward in so many ways.

College Hill Alliance was recently awarded the Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award by the International Economic Development Council. It really should be no surprise to us, especially with a turnout of what early estimates show to be about 5,000 people tonight.

I love this town- I Love Macon. For me, my love for Macon is eternal and spans long past one concert from a legend, one concert from an emerging band, the many art shows, theatres, food and more. My love comes from the people- the people who came out tonight. The people who came to the MPact Macon Forum and Fall Festival because they care enough to want us to put our differences aside.

Percy Sledge might sing “when a man loves a woman”- but I’d like to sing one about this town…

Tonights event brought out one of the most diverse crowds I have ever seen. People from every socio-economic background. Every race. Every age. We were united under the music we love. Music- the thing our town was once known for, what it will be known for again… along with the other arts: visual, performance, culinary.

Make no doubt about it- Macon- I Love You.

Love to all yall,

Molly
