Foodie Friday: 3 Countries and NuWay

Correction: So, other publications goof up occasionally, so it was inevitable that I do it too, right? But I deeply apologize for mixing up my photos for 3 Countries and El Som. Thankfully a friend pointed it out. I want y’all to know I am in Roasted listening to some f******* horrible drunk (and if I wasn’t stressed out and having a horrible day it would be funny) karaoke. Seriously. Guys singing Alanis Morrisette angry and drunk makes me wonder about y’all…

Anyways- correct photos are loaded and WWIII was avoided on my FB page. I literally had to look up what date I went to 3 Countries and make sure I got it right so I could find the damn date in iPhoto. Lesson learned: my photos are no longer in chronological order for some reason (I don’t know why) and I need new contacts because even though these photos are obviously different, I have to really look hard to see it.

I need to go to bed and start this day over- tomorrow.

Today we have an old favorite and a new one for many.

A lot of my friends have been urging me to go to 3 Countries on the corner of Walnut and Spring Streets- many of you would remember this location at that of the former Blimpie Subs- ages ago. Now we have 3 Countries, and as their Facebook page says ” 3 COUNTRIES provides a unique dining experience that brings together three great traditions of cuisine: hot and spicy Mexican, flavorful Cuban and traditional home style American. We have something to please any appetite.”

I didn’t realize until I got there that each day has a specialtity along with their regular menu items. I was a little bit unsure of what to get, and I got the impression that I was experiencing a slight language barrier with the young man at the cash register. So I went easy and ordered the tacos.

They were quite good, although I was surprised that the beef tacos were not ground beef- probably because that is how it is everywhere else. The meat was seasoned well, and I even tried their red sauce (they said it’s made of three different spices- I think is what he said) on it along with the cheese and lettuce. I even squeezed some of the lemon on there, which I would have not thought to do otherwise. But it was there so why not? And I really think that simple touch made a huge difference.

All in all, I will be back.

Now, I don’t get in to the Gray Highway NuWay too often- unless I’m downtown and don’t feel like fighting for parking on Cotton Avenue. But this time I decided to actually stop inside with my daughter. She loved the seats, which are those old fashioned kind of seats which let you kind of twist back and forth a bit. When I go in to NuWay- I figure I might as well go all the way. With my hotdog, that is. I like to get it with chili and all. Someone once told me that the chili there is different because it’s a Greek style of chili, which I have not verified for myself but would make sense to me since the owners are of Greek descent.

Needless to say, LK and I enjoyed our NuWay trip. She initially said she only wanted mustard, before switching to needing mustard and ketchup. Then she decided to be brave and eat Mommy’s hotdog. This probably would have been less fun with B, because that kid is so picky I’m lucky he will eat a hotdog at all.

Anyways, not like I can say anything bad about NuWay because I can’t. Although I honestly didn’t have anything from there until I was in college, and even then it was only because I was starving and it was the only thing at the Mercer event. Why is this? The red hotdogs scared me for whatever reason. Not sure why. Probably my parents traumatized me as a kid. We’ll go with that.

Have you been to either of these? What are you favorite items to get?

Love to all y’all,
