Chicken Crepes & Sloppy Joes & Power Quinoa: A Week of Macon Lunch Favorites

I really am trying to get better about going to different places for my lunches, especially now that my work schedule is all topsy turvey and all over the place. But there are some places that I know I can count on for something good and hearty.

Harpin’s Bistro

A favorite place of mine, and this is well documented, is Harpin’s Bistro in Payne City. That’s really kind of a misnomer in some ways because while Payne City is it’s own city (for now I guess) it is encompassed by the city limits of Macon, which is confusing to those not from here.

Sadly, I was so freakin hungry I forgot to take photos of the chicken crepes. Suffice it to say they were everything that could be desired. Crepes are something that you don’t see done very often in Macon, and I do love a good savory crepe. These were creamy and full of flavor and deliciousness. It’s something I will keep an special eye out for in the future.

Grow

I took these to the tv station with me (thus the photo of a to-go box) and everyone was like “what is THAT?!” In fact, I get that question a lot.

Sloppy Joe Sliders… but with cole slaw on them. Yummmmmmmmm.

Owner Saralyn tells this story about how her daughter had sloppy joes at a friends house when she was little and how she was stunned that they were made from a can.

Let’s just say that Saralyn’s version will blow you away- and if you’ve never had sloppy joes NOT made from a can then get thee to Grow quickly. But check out their menu on Facebook first, as their menu changes weekly with what’s available from the farmers.

Fountain of Juice

My new favorite item from old favorite FOJ is the power quinoa bowls. Specficially I like the huevos rancheroes one: black beans, eggs, corn, avocado, quinoa of course and lots of “YUM” factors.

And I love that this is super healthy for you as well. I tend to not eat a whole lot at one meal so I can stretch this out over two meals sometimes.

Biscuits, Burgers, & More

I’ve already written about how this is a new favorite of mine, but I have to say it again: this is a damn good burger.

Bearfoot Tavern

I think my favorite over here so far might be the fish tacos. It’s so easy to goof up fish tacos- to not get the seasoning right or something. But these are on point!

And for more tacos….

Margarita’s in Mercer Village

I feel like an idiot. I just now opened my eyes and read the menu better last night and realized they have corn tortillas. OMG. Such a difference. I got the carnitas this time, for the first time, and they were so damn good. I do wish it had been a pulled pork (Southern girl here you know) as opposed to chipped but that’s just a matter of preference. They were damn good.

Last but not least….

Roasted Cafe & Lounge

I already wrote one whole post about this sandwich and coffee, but really it’s one of my go-to favorites. I know if I’m blanking on what to eat for lunch that this is a safe bet.

What are some of your favorite lunch spots?!
