An Eventful Valentine’s Day
UPDATE: Can’t believe this but I *just* found out about the Big House fundraiser at The Crazy Bull Saturday night:
The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House will host the second annual Brothers and Sisters Jam on February 15 at The Crazy Bull in Macon, Georgia. The event will feature a LIVE and SILENT AUCTION as well as a concert to help raise money for The Big House Museum. Tables can be purchased for $300-$750.00 and individual tickets can be purchased for $50. Table sponsors will receive a VIP party and all ticket purchases receive a one-year membership to The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House.
Bands performing at this year’s event are regional favorites Vic Stanley and Friends and Bo Henry Band. The evening will start with local musician Vic Stanley and Friends taking the stage. The live auction will begin at 9:15 pm with the silent auction concluding at 10:00 pm. Get your bidding paddles ready for an auction that will have unique, one of kind items. There will be rare, never before seen memorabilia from The Allman Brothers Band. We will have items from Wide Spread Panic, R.E.M. and other notables from the music industry. Want a signed guitar? We will be auctioning ones signed by Dickey Betts, Wide Spread Panic, Steve Earl just to name a few. Musical items not your thing, no worries; we will have plenty of items from local businesses.
And then there is also Zoso coming to the Cox on Saturday as well, which I did know about but- I’m going to blame cabin fever and the weather on forgetting that one. Sorry y’all! Back to the original post:
Just so y’all are aware, you don’t *have* to do Valentine’s on the day itself. There are a LOT of events going on Friday as well as other days.
For Valentine’s Day itself- try going to hear DJ Shawty Slim at Roasted! This just got announced a moment ago and I’m so excited! I have peeps coming in to town to visit so my romantic Valentine’s will not be happening that evening and I need something fun to do. (Also- Roasted is open today for those needing to get out during the cold!)
And let’s be honest, not all of us have romantic Valentine’s plans, you could even head to the Hummingbird to see Atlas Road Crew! But perhaps you feel more like giving back while also having fun? Friday night is the Tubman Museum’s Death By Chocolate fundraiser. From their Facebook page:
Enjoy a decadent evening of entertainment, food, CHOCOLATE, and an auction – all to benefit the Tubman African American Museum.
Entertainment by: Richard Hunter Productions, Paula East Dance, Khicks Urban Ballroom, Mitchell Academy Jazz, Pilar Wilder & Hayiya Dance Theatre, and DJ Chester Gibbs.
Hosted by Charles Richardson.

What about an event for the little princess in your life? The Miss Macon Scholarship Association is hosting their 5th Annual Valentine’s Tea Party at the Hay House, appropriate given that the Hay House is our own Palace of the South. And it’s a really nice way to introduce your little girl to one of the most beautiful sites in Macon:
If your little princess is between the ages of 5-12, please join us for a Valentine’s Princess Tea Party with Miss Georgia 2013, Carly Mathis. Miss Macon 2014, Carmella Turner, Miss Macon’s Outstanding Teen 2014, Ivey Rowland, and other dignitaries, will also be attending.
The date is Saturday, February 15, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the historical Hay House, located at 934 Georgia Ave. Macon, GA 31201. Parents will be allowed to come at 1:00 to take pictures of their princess with Miss Georgia and other special guests. All proceeds from this event will benefit the Miss Macon Scholarship Association, a non-profit organization.
Tickets are $45.00, and will include a 3-course high tea. Princesses will also receive an exclusive tour of the Hay House, tiara, princess banner, and other favors. Etiquette will also be discussed, and princesses will be able to participate in group and individual activities.
Or maybe you’d like a way to give back to those less fortunate in our area? One organization in our area that I have learned more about recently is the Macon Volunteer Clinic- I’ve known about them for several years but my awareness was recently raised even more with last year’s Leadership Macon class deciding their project would be to provide surgeries for the working poor in conjunction with this very worthy group. Monday evening is their annual fundraiser: The Cotton Ball (appropriate name for doctors right):
The Cotton Ball is MVC’s annual fundraiser and anniversary celebration. Join us as we celebrate 11 years of service to Bibb County!
Dressed in casually chic “bow ties, boots, and pearls” cocktail to casual attire, guests will enjoy an evening of music by Big Mike & the Booty Papas (https://www.facebook.com/
These are all fantastic events and each a different way to have fun with Valentine’s Day. So, what will you be doing?
Love to all y’all,
Molly
