A Busy Weekend {Already} in Macon

I always laugh to myself when people say there’s nothing to do in Macon, Georgia. Now granted, in Athens and Savannah and Atlanta all of the selection will damn near slap you in the face without much effort. But this weekend, as well as much of July, there will be so much going on that you might not know WHAT is going on,

This weekend we have Theatre Macon’s production of Les Mis- and it runs until next weekend. I am beyond thrilled about this, the last time Theatre Macon put this on was through their Young Actor Company and included in the cast were F. Michael and J.P. Haynie– I wouldn’t be surprised to find out if Grey Henson was in the cast as well, I just don’t remember and Michael and J.P. were my contemporaries while growing up in the theatre community at Stratford Academy.

Now we’ve got Les Mis back- one of my all time favorite musicals that literally brings me to tears even just listening to the music. I am so, so excited to see it. And then there is the fact that I just adore Jim Crisp. 🙂

Also this weekend there is the Sundown Screen Series at Luther Williams Park and they are showing Frozen- now somehow I have managed to avoid seeing Frozen. Yes I have kids, yes they love that movie- their father took them so I have been able to avoid it…. until now. I’m not sure there’s anything better than getting to pack up a picnic and take the kids to see a movie at the ballpark that i already know they love and therefore will keep them pretty well behaved and entertained. #WINNING!

By the way, did I mention that it’s free? Thank you to the Knight Foundation for sponsoring! And here’s a list of the upcoming movies:

7/18 Hunger Games (Sandy Beach @ Lake Tobo)
7/25 Field of Dreams
8/8 The Goonies
8/15 Love of the Game (Frank Johnson Community Center)
8/22 Stand By Me
9/12 Jurassic Park
9/19 The Nutty Professor (Bloomfield Community Center)
9/26 ET

Also on Friday will be the gallery show for Catherine Liles at Macon Arts Alliance.

Mrs. Liles happens to be a member of my church and a contemporary of my grandmother. So yes I will be taking my kids there with me just before we catch the movie.

If a kids movie isn’t really your speed- check out the line up at Fresh Produce Records that night featuring Scotty Lingelbach/ Dalmatian/S0RC3r33.

Oh but wait- we’re not done! Saturday, for something of a slower speed, stop by the Essential Oils class at Hometown Yoga. I, for one, have been wanting to learn more about essential oils and this seems to be the latest things that many of my friends have started participating in.

Jack and Darcy in Macon will be hosting “Shop For The Paws” from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm.

Be sure to go and shop for some cute clothes AND give back to the community!

Saturday is another chance to see Les Mis- so if you didn’t go Friday you can go on this night. Then there’s also Twang’s One Year Anniversary party with a low country boil and all.

For the later night crowd, be sure to stop by Roasted Cafe & Lounge to wish Angie a Happy Birthday! There will be a variety of DJs present so be sure to wear your pants that make you dance. (See what I did there? Hahahaha.)

And if you love sangrias, The Hummingbird has been hosting special sangria days on Saturdays- last Saturday was Watermelon so I wonder what they’ve got planned for this Saturday! Head by there before or after Roasted.

Anyways- all in all, it’s a busy weekend.

What are you going to do???

Love to all y’all,

Molly
