5 No Cost (Or Low Cost) Valentine’s Day

There’s so many ways to experience holidays and even every day moments without spending an exorbitant amount of money.

  1. Have a picnic!

This could be an outdoor picnic or even indoors. What I love about this is it could be a romantic picnic for two or it can incorporate the whole family. You can make sandwiches, a snacking board, or a full spread. When my kids were little they loved creating blanket forts in the living room and eating together on the floor. It was a complete novelty for them and since we didn’t do it often they considered it special and magical.

2. Look through old photos/memories

How often do you take the time to look through old photos or memories in an intentional way? Sure, we’ve got Facebook memories and iPhones showing us where we were on this day however many years ago but maybe you cultivate some of your favorite moments with your loved one(s)?

3. Love notes

Leave your loved one a sweet note, perhaps with a favorite memory- or a Bible verse- or inspiriting quote. Something to get their day started! You could even create a series of notes or even a scavenger hunt that leads to your most favorite memory.

4. Flowers from the garden

I realize not everyone has flowers in their yard, but if you do have some fun creating an arrangement with them. You can also clip greenery and put that in the vase first. If you don’t have access to this, often times grocery stores will put flowers on sale at week’s end. Pull off any dying petals or greenery and clip at the bottom and they should last around a week!

5. Make a favorite dessert

Does your loved one have a favorite dessert? Make it for them! Or even bake together. Memories are made when doing activities together.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the idea of having to go and get presents on Valentine’s Day- and sure we sell items even here on this website, but almost everyone has a season (or more) of life when the budget just doesn’t allow it. It’s not something one should be ashamed of, but instead have some fun with it and get creative. Be thankful and grateful for the things you DO have, especially your loved ones.
