A Winning Macon Lunch Combo: The Macon Baking Company & Grow
My Macon lunch today was 100% winning. The temperature outside had plunged which always brings out my craving for soup and anything warm.
I knew thanks to the wonders of social media that Saralyn Collins, owner of Grow, was going to be debuting a new menu this week:
There are a few things that I already know I love here, like the tacos, and the sweet potatoes, and I’ve had various kinds of soup but when it changes up- I like to ask what it is that day. Besides: there are bread bowls.
I got the Italian Sausage and my Mom got the Cream of Broccoli. But first: Angel Biscuits! They’re small, about as wide as my thumb, and you can get them 6 or 12 at a time. We opted for 6, but probably could have gone with 12…. no, actually, I would have ended up taking some home if we had done that. But anyways, they’re served with fresh butter and jam. I’m not sure that there’s much better than fresh butter and jam on hot biscuits.
But then the soup came out in the bread bowls. Folks: there is NO REASON to go to unnamed chain restaurants for soup in a bread bowl. The ingredients here are fresher and locally sourced to boot. So even when you still gorge yourself during lunch you can feel better knowing there’s not any harmful preservatives or anything like that in your food. It was only afterward that I realized that the biscuits and bread bowls were from The Macon Baking Company.
AND THEN THERE WAS PIE! Two kinds were offered: a creamy pumpkin or peach & persimmon. I’m a sucker for fruit pies of any kind, and the peach & persimmon most certainly did not disappoint. I knew to order it from the jump, as I was afraid they would surely run out.
And of course it was lovely to walk in and know someone at almost every table and to see the friendly staff with Saralyn. I love to go places where I know people and they love to see me, this is quickly becoming one of those places.
So…. I think I need to go tomorrow also for a sandwich, because I just realized that the sandwich bread this week is courtesy of my friend Ellen, The Bread Gypsy, and since I haven’t made it to Mulberry Market (nor will I this week) I think I need to go in again.
Love to all y’all,
Molly
