The Best Accessory of All: Taste of the Arts and What I Wore

So here it is- what I wore to Taste of the Arts! But… not just yet!

An event like this takes some prep work. I had been wanting to color my hair darker for sometime. And of course, I waited too long to make my appointment with Nichole at Signature Salon (I swear I partially blame myself for telling all of my friends what a great job she does- and my work schedule is so demanding I can’t take a long lunch to go), so I saw Jackie at William Alexander. Now- Jackie takes care of several of my friends, and she styled my hair for a photo shoot (#TheMuseProject- photos pending) so I felt pretty comfortable. Still- having someone different color your hair…

But I have to say, she did an amazing job! And she styled it the next day too- a little secret yall… I also wore hair extensions! Love love love puttin’ some weave in my hair. Haha. Anyways.

Lauren Williams of The Lily Room at Classic Hair Designs in Bonaire had reached out to me some time ago, and we never could meet up. So, for this event we finally did and she did these amazing eyelash extensions, which I will do a whole separate post on later on.

Then of course, came the deciding of outfits and jewelry, etc. Now, I really was torn between the red Kate Hudson dress and this Tibi one that I chose. What made my decision for me is that I felt the Tibi to be a more elegant dress, and I decided I really wanted to wear this idea I had for a necklace. I saw some bracelets that Karli Campbell of Knot + Bow Designs makes (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=322949971134292&set=pb.242905125805444.-2207520000.1351565722&type=3&theater ) and I loved this one particular bead I saw. I used to make jewelry also (not to this level though) and so it was easy for me to envision this long, sparkly bead as a necklace centerpiece. Karli of course came through wonderfully with this necklace custom made for me:

It also so happened than Kianna Lowe of Kiki-Jabri Jewels (https://www.facebook.com/KiKiJabriJewels?fref=ts) contacted me around this time as well, wanting to send something my way. This sweet young lady is definitely a designer on the rise, take a look at this bracelet she made me, which thankfully matched my ensemble:

My earrings were a pair I’d had for some time, made by Diana Warner and purchased at Karats and Keepsakes. To be honest, I thought all of this jewelry might end up clashing with one another, but I think combined with the simple elegance of my dress and my new dark haired do’ I ended up looking rather exotic- kind of Persian almost. What do yall think?

Of course, I left the best accessories for last: my friends, for one. No event is complete without a fun group to hang out with. We went out to eat afterwards (and for more details on THAT go here: http://aroundtownwithmissmolly.blogspot.com/2012/10/wrapping-up-this-crazy-october-taste-of.html.

But truly the BEST accessory was my date: David. He actually wore a tux, which I just cannot get over because I’ve never been able to get a date to do that. And as usual, he was the perfect date all night. So lesson ladies! The best accessory you can have would be to have a good looking, well behaved gentleman on your arm. 😉
