The 2015 Vineville Tour of Homes: The Community Garden

One more item on the 2015 Vineville Tour of Homes is the Community Garden. Here’s a view before the work was done:

And here it is after:

Again, this has been a really great learning experience for me because I’ve driven up and down Clayton Avenue and Walnut many, many times and looked over this garden and though ” wow I wonder what all that’s about? It looks really good! Glad they’re cleaning this part of the neighborhood up”.

I had the chance to speak over email with Alex Freel who is in charge of this garden:

The garden provides a great point of contact with people in the neighborhood. People stop by constantly to ask about what is going here. It is a wonderful place to bond with people with whom you may not feel yourself to have much in common. It has been fascinating to see how the kids want to work here as well. One of the first things a child will ask me when they see me working is whether they can help.

Be sure to come out and see it for yourself this weekend! Here’s more info from their Facebook page:

2015 Historic Vineville Christmas Tour of Homes

Home Tour Date & Time:
Saturday and Sunday December 5th and 6th 1:00pm-6:00 pm

Big House Reception Date & Time:
Saturday December 5th 6:00pm-9:00pm

This year’s tour of homes will showcase bungalows and cottages in the Historic Vineville neighborhood. With the purchase of a home’s tour ticket, a tour of The Big House Museum is included.
The Vineville Neighborhood Association is also working with Strong Towers Fellowship, and will have a recently renovated city donated home on the tour. These renovated homes, which are owned by Strong Towers Fellowship, are rented to help the community with affordable housing. With donations from the surrounding community, these houses that have been an eyesore for decades are being renovated for a great cause. Also on the tour is the community garden located next to these homes.
During the tour of homes, we will have several artist and designers giving tips and sharing their expertise of holiday decorating and entertaining. Artist demonstrations will take place in a home that is on tour. These demonstrations are something new for this year’s tour.

The New Town Trolley will circle the neighborhood to make sure guest get from house to house with ease.

Saturday night we hope that all that visit our neighborhood will attend a reception at The Big House. This reception will include live entertainment and appetizers.
