How Southerners Prepare for Hurricane Evacuation: By Opening Doors
Let’s be honest, yes we run and grab milk and bread when it looks like we’re going to be snowed in. Maybe even for a hurricane. But some of us have better sense than that, especially when you’re going to be traveling to get the heck out of dodge and may not have access to a fridge.
So, what kinds of survival supplies do you need when you will be tired and staying- potentially- in an unfamiliar place?
Lots of bourbon. It keeps you warm and happy when you need it the most!
But no, in all seriousness many of us where I live in Middle Georgia have been posting saying they’ve got room for friends and relatives who are fleeing. It’s just awesome.
Then, a local business owner reached out to me wanting to do something. Then, I sent a text to someone in the mayor’s office asking what do people need? He said food and entertainment.
Well folks, we’re gong to be ready for y’all. Here’s a list of places offering discounts for you during your stay. We’re hearing the hotels are already full so we know y’all are here. I will be updating this list as I hear of more places offering discounts.
I happen to be the Executive Director of this Macon house museum. We will be offering half off admission, just let us know that you’ve evacuated because of the storm.

“We have a remarkable opportunity this Saturday to have a world renowned yoga instructor teach our class at Tattnall Square Park. Tommy Rosen is a yoga teacher and addiction recovery expert from Venice California, and has spent the last 20 years immersed in Kundalini and Hatha Yoga.
The way it works: This is a free, community driven, yoga class offered in an effort to bring yoga to the people of Macon – outside, in our beautiful Tattnall Square Park, where we want it. This is not a business, it produces no income. The teachers are typically volunteers from local studios. To show our gratitude for their generosity, we place a basket for donations. Please consider bringing a few dollars to put in the basket.I have some extra mats to share, but bring your own if you have one. A small blanket is good if grass bothers you. Please bring water, sunglasses and sunscreen. We practice under the shade of a beautiful sycamore tree, but sometimes the shade moves during the hour of class.
Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to experience the teaching of Tommy Rosen. Bring a friend, a family member or a casual acquaintance. Let’s show him what a great yoga community we have here in Macon.”
