Historic Grand Opening, Kids Movies, DJ Galore and More

Yet again it’s a Macon weekend packed with activities for all. Here’s my synopsis of what all is going on:

1268 College Street Open House

I am a proud member of Historic Macon, and as a Young Patron I am especially proud to tell you about this event. 1268 College Street is the address for the historic Jordan Apartments, the Craftsman-style four unit apartment building near the campus of Mercer University. These apartments were constructed between 1920 and 1924 and ” has overlooked one of America’s oldest public parks for nearly 100 years” (Historic Macon Foundation).

Tonight, from 5:30 until 7:30 pm, the public is invited to see these newly renovated apartments. Park behind Centenary Church and walk around- hope to see y’all there!

Monsters University and Frozen

Saturday, tomorrow, June 28th the Cox Capitol Theatre will be showing Monsters University at noon and Frozen at 3 pm. There will be costume contests, concessions, and more. A friend of mine went to one of the last family movies they had and there were even blankets on the floor for the kids!

May I suggest taking your little ones to the Rookery beforehand for a special milkshake? My kids love that special treat!

The Over-Do Day Party at Roasted Cafe & Lounge

Eight DJs- 4 hours- 30 minute sets. Perfectly crafted for the ADD music lover. Actually, I think it just kind of came about like that BUT what I do know is I never miss a chance to hear DJ SHAWTY SLIM: my friend and tour DJ for B.o.B.

And any DJ Slim brings in is one I want to hear. No cover. Great music. Great venue at Roasted Cafe with either all the coffee or beer you want.

Also tonight, at St. Joseph’s Church there will be the Good Vibrations Band. From their Facebook page:

” Saint Joseph’s Dance Ministry “Dances for Fun” and The Greater Macon Chapter #6059 of USA Dance presents:
An Evening of Dancing and Entertainment, Music by the Good Vibrations Band led by Mr. John Laughter, St. Joseph’s Social Hall on New Street with lighted and secured parking across the street. Light refreshments, dress is semi-formal.  $20 per person, $10 for students with ID. (Cash and checks accepted.) Line dancing during intermission led by Dianne Kent.”

And Roasted has a ” New Orleans Funk” band tonight: Gravity A.

” Gravity A has become the torchbearer for the city’s late night soundtrack featuring the unmistakable sound of true New Orleans funk, tight drum n’ bass breaks and intoxicating trance.”

Sky Over Macon

The Museum of Arts and Sciences will be hosting Sky Over Macon, tonight and tomorrow night ” this program provides the latest information about current and upcoming celestial events for those who want to learn how to find constellations or planets in the sky or how to increase their knowledge of astronomy”. Museum admission IS applicable- we really need to do everything we can to support our local museums! Go go go!

Sundown Screen Series

A ballpark. A movie. 9 pm- tonight! Armageddon is put on by the Macon Bibb Parks and Recreation. If you haven’t had a chance to see one of the fun things our town does for us- go to this. This is also another example of one of the fantastic events put on by the Knight Foundation.

Also- I’m hearing Harpin’s now has a special cooler up front to pick our to-go goodies from! I’m checking it out TODAY! YUM!

Hope to see y’all out and about this weekend!

Love to all y’all,

Molly
