August Is Going to Be Busy

It’s August 4th (I’ll probably post this on the 5th though- it’s rather late as I start this) and already this month is jam packed. I’ll keep this post rather simple with a list of events as I have them now:

August 8th- Bunko with 31 Gifts, Stella and Dot and Rumor Boutique: Join the ladies of Rumor, 31 Gifts and Stella and Dot for an evening of Bunko and shopping at Rumor Boutique. Receive discounts on items at Rumor as well as sneak preview of the fall lines for 31 and Stella and Dot.

August 10th- Fiesta Fundraiser!: at Moe’s on Saturday, get out to support Macon Love Rugby Team and the Middle Georgia Derby Demons. Even if you haven’t been able to get out and support either of these teams before (ahem- like me) it’s good to support them. Any time they can bring a meet or event to our area it supports local business and is a way we can build a real community spirit here.

August 17th- Anya Silver Poetry Reading at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church: from 4 until 7 pm come out and hear Mercer professor and acclaimed author Anya Silver read her poetry. I am fortunate enough to say that Dr. Silver has been gracious enough to critique my own work before, and she’s a genius. This is also a FREE EVENT.

August 17th- yep, still on the same day, Taste of the Arts: this year’s Taste of the Arts fundraiser to benefit the Macon Arts Alliance has a Roaring 20’s theme, so bring out your flapper dresses and feather boas and bathtub gin. Tickets are $40 per person.

AND STILL August 17th- after the TOTA fundraiser head on over to The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom to check out The Sexual Side Effects Rock n’ Roll Circus, I’ll be blogging about this later and I have gotten some insider info beforehand but just trust me you will NOT WANT TO MISS THIS EVENT. And we all know you’re going to be out anyway after the poetry and TOTA events…

August 24th- Macon Beer Festival: Beer. Beer Festival. For this 3rd year of the Pints for Prostates event tickets are only $20 before the event and $25 after. And it’s a beer festival. Do we really need to go further? (Oh but don’t worry- I will with a later post.)

August 24th- Weaver’s Weekend 2013: for those of you who, like me, missed Thomas Wynn and the Believer’s packed out performance during Bragg Jam this year then you can be redeemed ( get it? redeemed? Believers? yeah i know…) with this event. Held in memory of Mike Weaver this event benefits the foundation named after him. The event will be at the brand new Crazy Bull in downtown Macon.

August 30th- The First Annual Patriot’s Ball: this event will benefit The Whitlock Foundation, and I have blogged about it before. Once again, this is a do not miss event with auction items from Charlie Daniels and the Atlanta Falcons. Held at the Armory Ballroom and catered by the Moonhanger Group, this is the perfect way to kick off the start of Mercer University’s new football season.

August 31st- Mercer Football: the first Mercer football game of the season, for those of us who have complained about a lack of football outside of high school ball- get your tail over here to support our own Bears. Oh wait- the game is already sold out! This is pretty freaking outstanding for our community.

So… nothing to do in Macon? Whatevs!!!! And we all know there is a hell of a lot more than this going on- I reserve the right to add to this calendar down the road…

Love to all yall,

Molly
