Get The Beat at Lunch
Do you ever feel super sleepy after lunch? Or maybe wish for a way to get some exercise at lunch but have some fun and hang out with friends?
I love to dance, but sometimes I can be a little shy about it. And dancing outside of the regular circumstances? Eh…. maybe. Although I love the idea of it and if you catch me in a moment when I think no one is looking at me while I’m driving I *may* or may not be busting a move from the comfort of my driver’s seat.
However Lunch Beat Macon is going to make me dance. At lunch. In front of my friend. With no alcoholic influences (which I really don’t have to have anyway but it doesn’t hurt). Why? Because DJ Shawty Slim told me so.
Lunch Beat Macon will take place THIS Thursday the 9th from noon until 1:30 pm at The 567 Center for Renewal– bring your lunch OR purchase lunch provided by Doughboy Pizza and Roly Poly for only $5. There is no cost to attend and DJ Shawty Slim – tour DJ for B.o.B.- will be providing the music. And let me tell you- when Slim says you’re going to dance (as he did last night at Roasted) then you are going to dance. Pretty much no option cause he is an amazing DJ.
Now, I had to ask the organizer of this event, my dear friend musician Floco Torres, what made him think to do this?
Floco Torres: I came across Lunch Beat on an app called “Vowch”. Someone posted it & I watched the video of one of the events in Boston recently. I thought it would be really dope to get people together the same way in Macon (during the day time without alcohol) and just let everybody vibe and have a good time.
MIWM: Cool! So what did you do next to make it happen?
FT: I found the official website and got in touch with one of the team members to find out how I could use the Lunch Beat name and any pointers on how to make it a success.
MIWM: Thats very cool, and I assume they were ok with using the name, etc? How did you decide to partner with the 567?
FT: Yea, they even have a guidelines page on the website to help you out. I wanted to use an unorthodox place that you can’t just walk by and peek in. To save the trouble of having to black out the windows or persuade a restaurant to mess up their lunch crowd, I thought about the 567.
MIWM: What are your overall goals for this?
FT: To get different groups of people in the same room (politicians, young professionals, college students, service industry, etc) to connect with people more like themselves. Our community is still very undefined when it comes to identity and I think events like Lunch Beat can help us on the path to figuring it out.
This is a totally cool idea, you know as much as I am excited about expanding my blog and traveling to new parts of Georgia- and as much as I LIKE other places- this is the kind of thing that makes me fall in love with Macon over and over again. The fact that we can take an idea and the someone in the community will help you put it together. Now, it’s OUR job to get out there and support it.
Floco would also add: “Nadia Osman & Melissa Macker have been helping with the organization & getting the word out. They are awesome!”
