Cocktails and Cupcakes for a Cause- Oh My!
Two of my favorite “food” words:
Cocktails.
Cupcakes.
That would pretty much do it right there- but add in that this event benefits Central Georgia Autism? DONE.
This is the 8th year for Karats and Keepsakes’ Cocktails and Cupcakes benefit. I would venture so far as to say that most of you are probably more aware of the issues of Autism due to the bill that recently failed to pass our state legislature. In a nutshell, this bill would have mandated that small businesses’ insurance plans cover the costs for treating autism for these children and their parents. The bill sadly failed to pass, and this isn’t the first time it’s been presented, due to some political pushing around.
However, Julie Evans- owner of Karats and Keepsakes- has told me this won’t get them down. They’re going to keep on fighting. Julie is doing this because she has a nephew who is autistic, and she has seen first hand what this can do to a family- as well as the limitations families in Georgia have for treatment.

This year’s event will be tomorrow in front of Karats and Keepsakes on Forsyth Road. It will start at 5 pm, and there is a $10 raffle/donation for entry. But it’s well worth it. Along with benefitting Central Georgia Autism, you will be entered to win one of two prizes: either a $500 gift certificate to Karats and Keepsakes OR a Big Green Egg.
There will also be a trunk show by Sara Spivey Designs, Sara herself is the parent of an autistic child.
Hello There Cupcake will provide the cupcakes, and Macon Beer Company and Grey Goose Players club will provide cocktails. Along with that- El Sombrero, Super Suppers, and Mellow Mushroom will provide other goodies.
I didn’t even mention the entertainment yet- Maggie Renfroe will be performing live music.
There’s pretty much nothing to lose!
I am SO proud to be a sponsor for this event, as I have gotten to talk to Julie one on one many times about the struggles of parents and children dealing with autism- as well as their victories. I don’t know about y’all, but I’d like to see them get more victories. By contributing to this event, we can help them reach that goal. By contributing to this event, we’re one step closer to getting this bill passed and showing our state legislature that this IS important to us.
