Being A Girl Is Expensive | How I Multi-Task All. The. Time.
I’m really not complaining- I have a fantastic life. But there are moment in which I get a little bit overwhelmed with everything that I have to do.
So, I’m just going to assume y’all know that I’m going to Savannah Fashion Week next week- but what you may not realize is that in between now and then I also have the Cocktails and Cupcakes fundraiser at Karats and Keepsakes on Thursday night to benefit Central Georgia Autism. And I also have my cousin’s wedding to go to in Birmingham on Saturday- which mean I will be driving over there early early Saturday morning and driving back Saturday night. And then Sunday I prep to literally drive back and forth from Savannah. Oh and I have to buy new tires, too.
But back to the topic at hand. Y’all- being a girl is expensive. When you have three events to get ready for within the span of a week this junk gets real. For instance, I looked in the mirror the other day and realized it was way past time to color my hair. How did I know that? Aside from the fact that I could not remember the last time I did it, only that Mitch at Amanda Jane was the one who colored it, I could see my naturally reddish highlights starting to peek through my hair. Crap. My hair color also didn’t match my dark hair extensions. Thus- time to color it again.
And I ALWAYS wait until the last minute. Always. Without fail. It’s generally when I realize I’m going to be photographed or on t.v. for an event that I panic and break down to get it done. This also usually results in me bouncing around stylists. This time, I saw Elizabeth at Signature Salon. She had styled my hair before for a photo shoot- but not colored it.
I’m more than pleased with the results, and while I would have gone back to Mitch- he was out of town and everyone was booked that I knew at his salon. So, I called Signature. Frankly I know everyone there does a fantastic job, and I saw Nichole for ages- but she was booked as well and thankfully Rachel reminded me that I had used Elizabeth before. And now I finally have decent hair again. Phew! Oh and then you know, you have to buy the shampoo too. And all of that stuff.
Now- for the multi-tasking. As I was getting my hair done I was doing work. Yes, you read that right. I was doing work. Reading up on some studies and reports for clients. Why? Because that’s what you do when you work for yourself. Even while I was on the elliptical earlier in the day I was reading up on case studies on social media. Well, that’s because I also get super bored while on the elliptical, ha.
Before my next appointment I took two meetings and worked on a spreadsheet- and then off to see Brooke Kinross at Beesa Skincare for some, um, waxing treatments. And by the way- I learned there is a difference between soft wax and hard wax. Never knew that until Brooke asked if I had a preference. Note: I prefer the hard wax. No that is not meant to be a dirty joke- it kind of works like those Biore strips, but for hair, and captures more than the regular soft wax does. Brooke told me this is what they use in those European Hair Wax places. Good to know.
One day- two salon visits. That’s not even counting the eyelash extensions two weeks ago, and the hair and makeup to prep for each event. Plus outfits- yikes! I’m telling y’all being a girl is expensive. Add to it that I work all the time- by choice- usually while getting ready for said event in some capacity. I’ll even be doing work on my laptop while my family drives us to Birmingham.
Now- why do I multi-task so much? Well, aside from loving my work and my clients and being rather ADD- I work super hard so that when my kids are with me they have my full attention. After all, they are what make everything worth it.
More multi-tasking tips? Plan your day ahead. I schedule myself each night the night before, sometimes even my whole week. This way I make sure I’m not missing an appointment and that I’m getting everything done that needs to get done.
It really is possible to have it all- or at least, come close to it. And let’s be honest, when you have happy kids, a good education for those kids, a fantastic support system around you, and you can pay the bills- what else is there to ask for?
Love to all y’all
