Baby C’s One Week Old Top 5 Product Reviews

Baby C is ONE WEEK OLD! And I’m realizing I never did put up an official announcement post here- whoops. Although it is all over my social media.

That said, in this one week I’ve been amazed at how different this first week with him has gone compared to his older siblings. I don’t know if it’s that I’m older, that my yoga training has helped me to be more calm, if it’s the availability of new baby products, or all of it together that has made this first week rather easy. It’s probably a combination of all of those, but for now let’s cover the Top 5 items that made our first week super easy.

  1. Solly Baby Wrap

I really kind of gave these wraps the side eye for YEARS- I just figured they were for crunchy, granola moms and that I just wouldn’t be able to get the hang of them anyway. But my friend Cameron convinced me otherwise, plus I had watched her use them for years, and so I took the plunge on this $74 wrap.

It made SO many things possible in my first week. Being able to hold him close while cooking or walking around has made more of a difference than I expected. I don’t have to just put him in a bouncy seat to have my hands free. Plus, the wrap was WAY more comfortable than I expected.

2. Dock-a-tot

Definitely a big surprise over here. When friends first said I HAD TO HAVE IT, I honestly looked at it as being like a bigger Boppy pillow– and I already was gifted one of those. But I had a last minute panic purchase spree and this was a part of it. It’s actually been really handy because not only can I place it on the bed for baby to lay on while I’m doing laundry or something, but I can take it in the bathroom and other places to put on the floor if need be. It’s very similar to the Boppy but more versatile. Even if Daddy calls it a “baby dog bed” lol.

3. Aden + Anais Blanket

This one was a gift from a dear friend of mine- my oldest friend, in fact. I took it with us to the hospital despite thinking it might be a little on the thick side- out of sentimental reasons. But one thing I realized is that while the blanket itself is on the thick side, the fabric itself is still such that it wasn’t super heavy. It’s become Baby C’s favorite blanket and he’s used it every day since he was born.

4. Haakaa Ladybug Milk Collector (& La Vie Heated Massager)

So this one was a bit of a mystery to me until I started using it. Basically it’s meant to collect breastmilk that comes out after nursing or pumping and it does so by suction. Or you can use one on the opposite breast as nursing or pumping. I’ve had a hard time measuring how much breast milk Baby C was getting, so I’m now using a pump and also formula to supplement.. I’ve been using these milk collector shells as a way to “prime the pump” so to speak, because I find they help my breasts get ready for pumping. I also use the La Vie warmers to help with the prep. And then I use these again after pumping. I’ve found them super helpful!

5. Dreamland Swaddle Sack

Oh my goodness, I saw these posted online initially and thought it was a bit out of my price range for a sleep sack. Then it became part of the last minute purchase panic and WOW I’m so glad I got this. Around $100 with shipping, this sleep sack only goes until they’re about 6 months old but in my opinion it’s 100% worth it. This is a weighted sleep sack but it also has a velcro band on the inside to create a swaddle effect. Baby C did GREAT in the hospital being swaddled, but he kept wiggling his way out of it. Neither Daddy or I could get the hang of it as well as the nurses. So when on Day 3 Night 2 of being home with a baby that refused to sleep and wiggled non stop through the night- on that day the Dreamland arrived, I was relived, The first night with it didn’t go well because I tried to get him in it as he wiggled. No dice. Next night I happened to have it on the bed next to us as he finished a bottle. His arms went limp as he went to sleep and I saw it as my moment. Success! First night he slept from 10:30 til 4 am before needing a bottle, and went back to sleep. Next night I waited a little too long to get him to sleep and he didn’t actually go to sleep until 1:00 am but he did STAY asleep until I woke up. And then the next night he slept from 10:30 pm til 1:00 am, bottle, and then back to sleep until we woke up. I find these details important because I know parents like specifics, It’s also important to note that he did still take bottles, because babies still need them, but it was also easier to get him to go back to sleep afterwards.

I hope these help you with making your own purchasing decisions! I know for me it was a lot to wade through and figure out as I haven’t been pregnant in…. um… a long time!
