70 Degrees Outside and Snow: Christmas in Macon

It’s hard to follow up a series of events like what Macon saw last night- the Snow in Mercer Village was absolutely amazing. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the slide (went down it twice and they weren’t scared at all!) and throwing snowballs. Then we would head over to Sauced for pizza with friends and after that we heard Miss Warner Robins sing her renditions of “Let It Go” and “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Christmas in Macon is off to a good start.

We got there right after school, because I knew parking would be a beast and I didn’t see any point in going home. So we headed on to Fountain of Juice for brownies and watched the snow people put out the snow for the slide. While we waited my kiddos got fake interviewed by WMAZ- it really is amazing what will entertain them!

After that we would mill around for a little while longer, stopping in the Jittery Joe’s for coffee for mommy and chips for kiddos, before coming back out to get in line for the slide.

It was really nice to see people here that I am not accustomed to seeing that these events, people that I like to say I know from “other circles” in Macon. Not the usual downtown or Mercer crowd. So I think that should tell the College Hill people that this was a job epically well done in regards to getting the word out and getting others to attend.

Every child seemed to really enjoy the slide and the snowballs, I know mine did!

And yet, things are just getting really kicked off. My friend Priscilla Esser has a fantastic exhibit up at Travis Jean art gallery on Cherry Street. Tonight is the third Corner Concerts event, this time at the former Shriner’s Temple on Poplar Avenue. And tomorrow the Christmas parade through downtown Macon and the last day of the Intown Neighborhood Association Tour of Homes.

With each new holiday season, new traditions are added to the charm of our town- like Ocmulgee Traders’ carrying Christmas Trees so you can continue to shop local complete with donuts and hot chocolate.

The weather might not be lending itself well to the holiday season right now, but it’s Christmas in Macon, Georgia and I wouldn’t have it any other way. As I said, Christmas in Macon is off to a good start.

I can’t wait to celebrate this season with each of you!
