Yoga as a Cure-All: Sparks Yoga

I am that person who was once very intimidated by the idea of going to yoga classes. Everyone else there looked like they knew exactly what they were doing, while I was a bumbling mess on a mat. Add in a hot temp element to it and I was just done.

But, a few years ago, I really tried to step out of my element and committed to going at least once a week on Sundays. I found that it really helped me de-stress and focus back on life in general. And then the studio closed and I stopped going.

A little over a year ago I jumped back in, thanks to Christa Conn and her coaching class I was taking. She helped me figure out where stress was in my life but also got my behind back into a yoga studio.

Then, Sparks Yoga opened up not far from my home- and that was a game changer for me for a few reasons. For one, it was close so I didn’t have the excuse of “not wanting to drive all the way out there” anymore. Two, AIreal Yoga. This yoga class was new to Middle Georgia and I reasoned if it was new here, then not only was it new to me but most likely new to everyone else. So even though I was terrified of the idea of doing inversions and such, at least I wasn’t the only one new to doing things this way.

Over the past year I’ve experienced a number of minor health issues that the AIreal Yoga has helped to cure:

  • ear wouldn’t pop back after a flight
  • discovering i have arthritis in my back
  • general wellness
  • crick in my neck after sleeping poorly
  • water stuck in my ears after swimming

But even more so than that, I’ve gained a confidence in achieving things- like yoga positions that scare the bejesus out of me- that I never thought I could before. Even just last week I did the “Flying Buddha” in class (I should have asked Jenny to take a photo)! Then my hands got stuck and I thought I was stuck and Jenny said she would help me out of it but I pushed on through and got my hands free and moved on out like I was supposed to.

(Another position I thought I couldn’t do:)

I would encourage each of you to try something you think is hard- it’s really awesome when you can watch yourself grown and learn. Even, perhaps, come to AIreal Yoga with me! I’d love to know when you want to go ๐Ÿ™‚

Love to all y’all,
