When are you going to believe me? – Macon Pops
I tell y’all each time that Macon Pops is an event not to be missed. I wonder if y’all believe me?
Because yes the tables are always sold out- I can count on those folks. It’s the balcony seats we need to fill up.
Those of you who, last minute, say I’m not sure this is worth the $20 ($10 for students) let me make this clear: out of everything happening in the arts in our town, this is what I am the most passionate about. I believe in the people behind this project. And there’s zero reason it can’t be sold out each time.
With that being said, I did a short interview with my very good friend Floco Torres about his work with Macon Pops.
Molly: Tell us about your involvement witn Macon Pops, you’ve worked with director Steve Moretti before, right?
Floco: I worked with Steve on an EP back in 2012 and we’ve just kept in touch the past 4 years. When Steve & Matt started Macon Pops, they brought me on for a show on the first season and we got a great response. Plus, it’s been on my bucket list to perform with an orchestra.
Floco: Some of the students from the camp will be performing and that’s pretty tight. I’m excited to see their faces when they look out at 1,000 folks that are there to see them.
Molly: Describe, please, what you hope to get out of Friday’s performance?
Floco: Every show I just want to give 1000% and for everyone to have a great time. This set that we’re trying is a new idea so in that stand point I just want to represent Hip-Hop to the fullest and show people that don’t know how powerful our culture is.
Molly: Where do you genuinely see music in Macon heading? It seems like we’re on the verge of something- but it could go either way.
Floco: I’m very much in the moment right now so I think as a city we should just focus on that. We have a lot of good things going on and not getting caught up in looking at our watches may be the best thing.
Guys- I’m telling y’all. You. Do. NOT! Want to miss this. This is going to be amazing. Simply amazing.
OH!!! And after Pops- head on down to Bourbon Bar for their Rhythm & Rye event. It was really good last time. 🙂 Have I ever lied to y’all? Of course not!
