Travel Tip Tuesday: St. Simons Island

When I say I’ve been going to St. Simons Island my whole life- it’s only slightly hyperbolic: I’ve been going since I was two years old. And my mother has been going since she was a teenager before that. So I’d say between us we’ve covered at least 50 years of vacationing on the island.

All that said, while I’ve been extraordinarily lucky that most of my days down there were spent at my grandparents condo…. We have outgrown it.

By far my favorite place to go and stay, so far at least, is the King and Prince. This is for a few reasons:

1- it’s next to the beach

2- there’s pools

3- on site food options

And many more. But chief among them is how easy it is to get to the beach. Literally you can walk outside of your doors (depending on where you are)- or at least, pretty close to your doors- and you can be at the beach. I don’t have to get all of that sand in my car!!

And if I’m honest? I don’t super love going to the beach. It turns into a nightmare to have to haul all of that stuff around and generally… they’re done with the beach after 30 minutes. When you do go to the beach it’s super easy (and relatively inexpensive) to rent chairs and umbrellas… no need to haul them down yourself!

There’s three pools at the King and Prince- and the smallest one is just large enough for my youngest and I, while the larger ones are great for my teens. Plus… there’s a poolside bar and food service. And if you want seated service outside as well that’s an option… which is a good idea when you have a curious toddler.

Or if you just like good food outdoors 🙂

They’ve also got this super cute playground area right next to where you can get coffee and other treats. I didn’t truly appreciate it until this year when my youngest wanted to go out there and play!

Now for my next “must do” as I named in my Instagram video (which you can see here)… get a golf cart.

We had never bothered with it before because… well… we just hadn’t! But this past trip we got one on a whim and now I think I might need to buy one. If you look at the video you’ll see my youngest is THRILLED- truly, he loved it! He still to this day asks for his golf cart. (Whoops!) And it was so easy to get around the island on it.

So those are my main two tips for going to St. Simons Island: stay at the King and Prince and get a golf cart.

Have fun out there!
