The Met Gala: What Went Right, and What Went Terribly {Wrong}
I don’t follow a whole lot of celebrity events because, well, I just don’t. But the Met Gala is one of them. For those not in the know the Met Gala is the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala. Each year has a theme, last year’s was punk and this year is a throw back to old school glamour. Rather appropriate since the Costume Institute is being renamed in honor of Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of Vogue. This means white ties for men and flowing ball gowns of elegance for the women.
However- some fell flat on their faces.
I love Star Wars- but not on a dress. Fail Kirsten Dunst.
Emma Stone how DARE you- we love you so much how can you step out showing side-boob and your mid drift at the Met Gala?! FAIL!
I weep for your misjudgment Miss Stone.
Katie Holmes: the Gone With the Wind look is only cute when worn by Vivian Leigh and accompanied by her trademark “Fiddle Dee Dee!” Fiddle Dee Dee indeed- and that hair! Ugh. Double fail.
I know some are already praised one Sarah Jessica Parker’s Oscar de le Renta but no, not me. I don’t think the Met Gala is the place for a dress emblazoned with the designer’s signature. And her hair isn’t doing it for me either.
However, Karlie Kloss- that my dear is a win! What looks from the photo to be a gold brocade woven over black is simply divine, especially with opera length black gloves and a strapless gown. Brilliant.
I really like Amber Heard’s dress- except I want to lengthen her sleeves.
And then there is Rachel McAdams, just after the ten year anniversary of Mean Girls, in classic elegance in only the way Ralph Lauren can do it:
It can be so HARD to pull off a floral dress in a formal gown but oh my GOD Emmy Rossum I should have known it would be you:
If you want to see more looks from tonight, go to NYMAG.com- which is where I got these images from (each are credited to their photographer in the caption).
Also- major bonus points to the men for taking it up several notches! I need to see men dressing like this more often. Do y’all hear me????
Love to all y’all,
Molly
