The Easter Bunny Visits Us Here (and There)
Ah, the joys of divorce. I think it’s harder on parents than it is on the kids, especially during the holidays.
My kids are pretty excited that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny visit them at two houses as it is, then add in that their father’s parents are divorced as well and you have a stop over at each of those grandparents houses (I currently live with my parents while I look for a home- once I move out then add in another stop there as well).
I’m not sure what their father planned for them, but I have explained to my kids that the Easter Bunny will visit them over there as well. However THIS YEAR I’m so so so excited because it’s the first year since we first separated that Easter falls on my weekend.
Easter is my favorite church holiday, even more than Christmas, and always has been. Something about the story of Christ dying for our sins and the miracle of Resurrection has always resonated with me- even when I was a child.
Of course, it could also have something to do with the fact that Easter always meant that my brother and I would get our brand new Easter outfits as kids- and I have carried over that tradition with my kids. I even went so far as to have a session with Jennifer Hayslip of Pink Ellie Photography for all of us with our Easter outfits.
But in all seriousness, Easter heralds a new, fresh start for each of us. It’s a reminder that we have been saved from our sins, and it’s a chance to allow spring in to our hearts and to move forward with our lives.
It’s nice to see that my kids are learning this as well. We have a Kids Bible and Kids Devotional that we read when they are with me, and they have told me that Mama Kates (my former mother-in-law) has shown them movies about how Jesus was buried behind the stone and then the stone rolled away and Jesus was ALIVE again. Beyond that, the concept is a little bit difficult for them.
For now, my sweet things are super duper excited about their Easter Egg Hunts with Daddy, and at school and daycare and with Mommy. However I’m looking forward to the day when my kids know it’s about a lot more than just multiple Easter Bunny visits.
Love to all y’all,
Molly
