Southern Style Sunday: Scottish Edition
‘Should auld acquaintance be forgot, /And never brought to mind? /Should auld acquaintance be forgot, /And auld lang syne! /For auld lang syne, my dear, /For auld lang syne. /We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet, /For auld lang syne…” Sound familiar? It may seem like ages ago since most of us heard this this New Year’s Eve classic, but the holiday celebrating the life and work of the poet behind those words, Robert Burns, is this very evening.
Burn’s Day/Night is celebrated all across the United Kingdom, and even across the pond here in America by Burns’ enthusiasts. In honor of Scotland’s Poet Laureate, and in response to the recent Scotland-esque weather we’ve been having, I’ve composed an outfit of pieces from local boutiques, Karats and Keepsakes and Rumor, and my personal wardrobe.
Having a great pair of jeans is essential to starting off the New Year in style. Pictured here is a pair of Henry and Belle “Super Skinny” high-waisted jeans from Karats and Keepsakes. The fit on these jeans is amazing! They have a nice stretch to them that makes them surprisingly comfortable, and the dark wash with the slight fade looks polished and very flattering, especially with a classic black turtle neck like this one from Ralph Lauren.
With skinny jeans, it’s usually a good idea to opt for footwear with at least a little bit of a heel to elongate the leg. To complement the color palate that I was going for with this particular outfit, I decided on a pair of blue suede booties with black bows that I got from Anthropologie.
Nothing says Scottish quite like a good tartan pattern. This scarf from Rumor fully delivers on this end and is about as soft and cozy as it gets.
Rumor also has some fantastic bangles. Deciding on just one was quite the task, but when I saw this beauty, I knew it would be the perfect finish.
