Southern Fried Music at The Bird

I’m excited I’m excited… Thomas Wynn and The Believers is coming back to Macon at The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom the day after Christmas. Can you hear me doing my happy girl dance?!

The other really cool thing is that the Bird- as it is know to locals- has a whole other line up of acts to keep us entertained. The one I’m most excited to see that I never have before is McKenzies Mill, on December 20th, from their Facebook page:

” Born and raised in the small southern town of West End, North Carolina comes the rocking new duo…McKenzies Mill. Founded by brothers Justin and Ryan Harris and backed by the best musicians Nashville has to offer, McKenzies Mill brings you “Southern Fried Rock & Roll!” In 2011, they won The Wildhorse Saloon Band Contest judged by Producer Michael Knox and other industry professionals. Most recently the boys have won the Bud Light Battle of the Bands for Port Paradise 2012 and the MGM Grand/NFR Rodeo Finals Contest to become the NFR Afterparty band for 10 consecutive night in December at the MGM Grand Las Vegas.”

McKenzies Mill refers to themselves as performing “Southern Fried Rock n Roll” and I would have to agree- the music evokes the feelings of being at your local roadside saloon with a couple of ice cold beers in hand. I downloaded their song “Dirty Things”- it has a fantastic beat and the song’s lyrics make me smile in spite of the subject matter. (You can just use your imagination as to what the song is about.) It’s a fantastically appropriate bar song to rock out to- especially in the Bird. Kind of reminds me of a cross between Southern Rock and AC/DC, the guitar makes me think of “Pour Some Sugar On Me”- which we all know is a classic rock n roll song that gets the whole bar on it’s feet.

Speaking of AC/DC, tomorrow night they will feature Great White Lion Snake- an 80’s cover band. And who *doesn’t* love 80’s music? It’s pretty much obligatory to have 80’s music night every so often.

Milk Money will be at the Bird the night *before* Christmas, and on the 21st will be the Bama Gamblers… basically, the Bird is bringing back Southern Rock with all of these acts and my favorite newer artist Thomas Wynn and the Believers.

ANNNNDDDD my dear friend Bucky will also be on hand occasionally as Master of Ceremonies and DJing between sets- you may know him as DJ Surname Helms.

And you know what? I have a gift certificate to the Bird… who wants it? I’m going to pair it with a big giveaway i have coming up soon. $25 to the Bird could buy a whole lot of PBR…

And then there’s also the PBR Christmas Tree…

Love to all y’all,

Molly
