With yesterday’s announcement of this year’s Athfest headliners, the Classic City has been abuzz with excitement for music the summer holds. But not to worry! We don’t have to wait until the warmer days of late June to get our festival on. Part concert performance, part comedy show, and part art exhibit, Slingshot 2016 is here to make all of our music loving dreams come true. So what exactly do you have to look forward to this weekend? Continue reading for just a taste of what’s to come!
Saturday April 2, head to the Georgia Theatre for Canadian electronic phenom, Crystal Castles. The group has been featured on “Gossip Girl” and “90210,” two shows known for their highly addictive music choices almost as much as their highly addictive teen drama. Best known for their single “Not in Love” (ft. the Cure’s Robert Smith, you will regret not hearing Crystal Castle’s lo-fi sound live.
If you have turned on the TV in the past couple of years you have seen Moshe Kasher. He’s appeared as himself on “Drunk History,” “@midnight,” and endless talk shows. Maybe you’ve seen him on “Transparent” or “Brooklyn Nine Nine?” Perhaps, you caught is special on Netflix. Either way, what you need to know is this guy’s a hoot and you can see him this Saturday at 8:00 at the 40 Watt.
Fan of the visual arts? Thursday, March 31, at 5:00 the Georgia Museum of Art is hosting an artist talk with Kamil Narrate, followed by a reception at 6:00. I LOVE the museum. I will take any excuse to wander the halls. Go, learn about art, enjoy some refreshments, and explore the exhibits featuring video works by Jamey Grimes, Dodd Professional Chair, Paul Pfeiffer, and several others. And if that’s not enough there is an ANDY WARHOL PRINT IN THE PERMANENT COLLECTION. Go! Go! Go!
