Savannah Fashion Week: Interview with Troy Allen

I just realized I totally forgot to add this introduction- whoops. I’m blaming it on not feeling well yesterday.

Anyways, Troy Allen is a design student in Savannah, and while I could not find a website with his collection, I will be taking plenty of pictures at the show! (Chanda- I’ll be sure to find out for you where one can see his looks!) I’m really excited to see what he has to offer. The below photo is one I found from a show he did a couple of years ago and I was really excited to see that the clothes were really pretty and fun, even though (as he says below) his design aesthetic is rooted in sportswear. It’s interesting to see someone make that type of clothing cool and fun!

MIWM: What is your design aesthetic? What inspires you to create?
TA: My design asthetic is heavily rooted in sportswear. I want to make clothes that are comfortable and can transverse between day and night.
MIWM: If you were to describe your style in two words what would they be?
TA: Layered and Witty: when I’m designing I like there to be several pieces and there’s most likely a story behind each piece, which makes humor come across secretly in the design process.

MIWM: Do you think fashion should be attainable for all people? Why or why not?
TA: Fashion should be and is attainable for all people. We all have our own personal style and what we believe is fashion. What one person believes to be fashion can be completely different from someone else’s view of it.

MIWM: Who would you say is your ideal customer?
TA: My ideal customer is someone who knows how to have fun in fashion and life.
