Murphy’s Law and Shoe Shopping

Murphy’s Law:

“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”

I’m speaking specifically in regards to my shoe shopping. I’m not sure what it is about shoes that does it for me, but I swear to you there are two distinct situations that just kill me (and my budget). A- Looking for a very specific shoe (ie: a turquoise 2 1/2 inch heel peep toe with embellishment- not blue, not cobalt blue, not navy- turquoise) and B- not looking for any shoes at all but stumbling upon the ever elusive 95% off every shoe you could possibly want and scouted out during the previous season and didn’t buy cause they were OUT OF YOUR PRICE RANGE BUT NOW THEY AREN’T sale. Both situations just damn near kill me.

For instance, for the fun of it I got on Zappos to look for some blue shoes. I really want turquoise ones cause, well, I don’t have any and the only blue shoes I have are navy with a kitten heel and are a little small for me but still cute (and they were on sale- nevermind the fact that I have yet to wear them aside from the initial trying them on). And teal and turquoise are going to be super hot this spring. So yeah, turquoise shoes. Now, you would think Zappos would know us women enough to delineate between the different shades on their filter for their website:

I mean, for blue ALONE there are so many shades: navy, cobalt, teal, sky blue, azure, cerulean (made famous in The Devil Wears Prada), ultramarine, sapphire, steel blue, indigo, and on and on and they are all so very different. Seriously! They are! So it confounds me that Zappos wouldn’t differentiate… after all they have a filter for heel sizes, but, I digress….

So I am looking, looking, and I find some shoes I just love. The problem?

I mean, how could there be a problem with a beautiful pair of Badgley Mischka heels that are damn near turquoise in color, peep toed and have gorgeous embellishments at the toe?

Oh yeah- a $200+ price tag. Whoops.

Ok, so scroll down and I find these lovelies:

Cobalt blue, I can live with that. Ruching going up to the embellishment, very nice. Stuart Weitzman, even better. On sale! For….!

$349.99

WTF. If I were actually *needing* these shoes I’d be pretty screwed. Damn it. But, this is how it always goes when I am looking for a particular shoe.

Now, when I am just in the mall killing time- as my last trip there, in fact I don’t remember why I went. I think I wasn’t feeling well and just kind of stepped on over there, as if I would find some miraculous panacea to get rid of whatever cold I had caught from my kids. And in some way, I did.

Dillard’s has a 75% off shoe sale. I found two pairs:

Now, did I *really* need these? Well, I do always need some kind of black shoe. And white ones are alwsays eluding me. Although I did break one major, cardinal rule with the white ones: never, ever, buy satin shoes if they are not darker in color (I will elaborate in another post some day). But- they ended up being less than $50. And they’re super cute. And… I’d be lying if I didn’t say I walked out of that store feeling just a tab bit better, even if my wallet was lighter.

But, there you have it. The Murphy’s Law of shoe shopping- whatever can go wrong, will go wrong… at least, for me…

What about yall?

Love to all yall…

I really really didn’t need to know just how cheap those shoes were… there goes all of my money tomorrow on shoes I have no occasion for wearing! Story of my life! I need to back away from the computer now and stop looking at shoes

Well, I am feeling your pain about right now. If you happen across the elusive 3-1/2 inch stacked turquoise peep-toe, please let me know, because I have been looking for that exact color as well, and I’ll be damned if I have found it yet. :-/
