Moments of Street Style: Interview with Tori DeGraw Jennings and Canaan Marshall

Here you go ladies and gents! The complete article from my Make It Work column in Macon Food and Culture Magazine (http://maconfood.com/current-issue see pages 44 and 45).

Tori DeGraw Jennings:

Tori DeGraw Jennings is someone who I am happy to say has recently become a friend of mine. She is always dressed beautifully and any event she hosts is as well- including her wedding. (Which I have to say was just lovely and I had the BEST time!) So she was a natural choice to interview.MIWM: Tori- tell me who your style icons are?

TDJ:   Barbie(r), she’s always dressed to the nines lol! I love Leighton Meister’s character on Gossip Girl, Blair Waldorf’s style minus her headbands. J Lo is high on my list too. I really like her style although she is way more edgy than I’d ever be. She’s not scared to take risks with her fashionchoices and they usually pay off for her. Last but certianlly not least is Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She’s the epitome of classic ladylike style.

MIWM: What is your favorite event to dress for? Whether it be a specific one or just general (ie: Taste of the Arts or cocktail evenings).

TDJ:   I LOVE getting dressed for the FOODIES! I love how everyone knows that it’s Macon’s version of a red carpet event. People only seem to take that seriously for the FOODIE Awards. I personally think every evening event should be cocktail attire. I love getting dressed up like that.

MIWM: Who is your favorite designer?

TDJ:  Coco Channel would definitely be my favorite! Not that I own anything Channel, but I love the innovation and vision she’s had and her contribution to  women’s fashion. In the early 1920’s she gave us the women’s tweed blazer and skirt, two-toned ballet flats, the little black dress, and quilted bag with chain straps that are staples in the fashion world to this day! All of her work exuded elegance, feminine, and confident style.

MIWM: Where is Macon do you generally shop?

TDJ: I wear a lot of girly, classic styles and don’t take any trend too seriously. I shop everywhere but places that never let me down are Bella’s on Vineville, Fabric, Express, & Belk’s. I’m also currently obsessed with Francesca’s at Shoppes of River crossing.

MIWM: What is the ONE item you cannot live without?

TDJ: My nude platform Steve Madden stiletto pumps! They’re so versatile and very comfortable. They’re perfect for day or night!

Canaan Marshall:

Canaan Marshall is a man of style- seriously every time I see him whether it be a casual affair or cocktails he is dressed impeccably. So, who better to interview about style? Exactly.

MIWM: Canaan- tell me who your style icons are?
CM: Kanye West has such a unique mix of retro styles mixed with preppy silhouettes that gives him a bold swagger. Satin blazers, suits and crisp dress shirts paired with funky, futuristic-looking high-tops constitute much of his red-carpet apparel. Elsewhere, he’s spotted sporting polo shirts, cable-knit sweaters, and ‘70s- and ‘80s-inspired sportswear.
MIWM: What is your favorite event to dress for? Whether it be a specific one or just general (ie: Festival of Trees or cocktail evenings).
CM: Festival of Trees at the Museum of Arts and Sciences is my favorite event to get style up for. It is a great event to show off your evening fashions, plus it’s a happening event. The Foodie Awards is another awesome event to present the fun side of your fashion eye.
MIWM: Who is your favorite designer?
CM: Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford
MIWM: Where in Macon do you generally shop?
CM: Dillard’s, Jos. A. Bank and Bowen Brothers
MIWM: What is the ONE item you cannot live without?
CM: Shoes! They can be a great outline to a perfect Style.
