The Magic Pill for Vein Treatment
I have happy news!
There’s a magic pill out there for vein treatment…. sort of. It’s called: compression hose!
Don’t give me that look. Don’t give me that side eye. I’ve tried some compression hose myself and I have to say, I actually felt better after using it. We all know that the older we ladies get (ahem- 32 for me on Monday) the higher the propensity for vein damage in our legs. Got kids? Pregnancy adds to it. Wear cute shoes? I mean, hello! Clearly there are some high heel lovin’ ladies here. All of these things are hell on our veins.
But I got to pay a special visit to Vein Specialists of the South about a week ago and was sent home with a pair of leggings as well as a pair of hose. Each have a little bit of a trick to get them on, but for me it’s just like putting hose or leggings on my daughter: put your fingers all the way to the end of the hose or leggings, and simply ease them up.
From the Vein Specialists website, Dr. Kenneth Harper ” performed the first endovenous radiofrequency closure procedure in Georgia (early 2000). Endovenous radiofrequency closure is a minimally invasive alternative to vein stripping. Since 2000 he has personally evaluated more than 10,000 patients and performed more than 5,000 Closure procedures. With that kind of innovation and experience you can rest assured that you are in good hands“.
And yet, why DO we have to wear compression hose to help prevent vein damage? Well, I pulled up some information from the National Library of Medicine. To put it very simply, compression hose aids with blood flow- which can prevent varicose veins. “Women tell me they love how high heels make them feel taller and more beautiful and the way their legs look when they are in heels. While high heels may help you feel and look more beautiful, they may not be good for your vein health. The higher the heels, the more they negatively affect the venous blood flow,” says Dr. Kenneth Harper.
I know Dr. Harper is really good about letting others know about compression hose, this “magic pill” for vein treatment, because any time he sees me he asks what I’m doing about it. Check out his most recent blog post here: http://www.veinspecialists.com/blog/high-heels-and-varicose-veins/.
