Macon Miracles
While the phrase “the Macon Miracle” might have feelings of ill will associated with it from a now departed school superintendent, I think the phrase could be tweaked to apply to the events of this week and even the past few weeks.
Rabbi Larry beat out Henry Ficklin- and Mr. Ficklin will not be contesting the results. CSPAN is coming to OUR town to interview some of our finest for a new project- the press conference is today actually.
And…. ohmygosh…. it was one of those weekends. You know- the one in which so much happened that trying to go back and remember it all proves to be troublesome. I really don’t remember what all was going on Friday, it was things like work, research, classwork, picking up my son from school, planning kids birthday party, etc. But then that night it was the Black Lips concert. I knew from friends that this was going to be a good show but I didn’t really know what I was getting in to. It was off the charts bananas, but in a good way. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Then the next night we played hostess to of Montreal and their opener, the Wild Moccasins. That show- I just don’t even have words. Aside from having incredible music, of Montreal had actors in full body suits and masks and even blew feathers out in to the audience. Unreal.
Previously, Mercer Men’s Basketball had a play make it to ESPN Sportscenter’s Top Ten Plays. And they’re leading the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 15-5 record, the next game is this Thursday evening at Hawkins Arena in Macon.
And we do have amazing schools here too- to get back to how the phrase ” the Macon Miracle” was most recently used. I just had a conference with my son’s teacher and let me tell you, Bibb County Public Schools have done an amazing job thus far with my child. We had a daycare tell us my son should be on ADHD medications once-which by the way is illegal for them to say- but really they just weren’t trying. The next daycare was top notch. But really, the schools here are incredible and we got to tour both Alex II and Vineville and I know we made the right decision for our son to go to Vineville, the arts program there will blow your mind. It was a terribly hard decision because both schools are amazing.
So, we have interesting local politics, an abundance of history, fantastic colleges sports and national bands playing on our stages. For any of you who say Macon is boring I frankly just don’t know what you’re looking for. We also have incredible food, organic markets, and more fundraisers than you can shake a stick at for your to wear your finery (or not should you choose) to- in fact I would encourage you to take a look at the Macon Volunteer Clinic’s Cotton Ball. And Theatre Macon just held auditions for Avenue Q! And Macon Pops is coming up soon… AND then next Lunch Beat Macon.
Did I mention the shopping? Oh yes, amazing individual boutiques- you can see their ads all over this blog, as they are so supportive of me and I love them for it.
I mean really, seriously, y’all… THIS is the Macon Miracle. And we can all play a part.
Love to all y’all,
Molly
