Ladies Who Lunch At Harpin’s
Growing up in the South, there is one thing young girls are aware of- and that’s “Ladies Who Lunch.” I still remember getting a day off from school (for whatever reason,) and my mom would take me out to eat to one of the many local restaurants here in Macon. I remember her saying things like, “Look at us – We are ladies who lunch today.” I never really knew what that meant, but I figured it was something that was very special.
Today I was sort of tickled to be able to have the time to have a leisurely lunch with a friend. Molly invited me to one of her favorite lunch time spots, Harpin’s, located on Brookdale Ave. I’ve eaten there a handful of times and remembered how good the food was, so this I knew would be a treat.
Luckily, we were able to beat the lunch crowd. I met Molly inside and we were greeted by none other than Paul Harpin, the owner of Harpin’s.
After we placed our order at the counter, we found a very cozy spot right in the front to catch up on how our weekends went. It was the perfect scenario for two girls just looking to have a nice lunch and chat. Of course, since both of us work as writers and local marketing mavens, it makes complete sense we ended up chatting about some of the events coming up in town, as well as the pile of assignments we were both attempting to tackle!
We had been sitting barely 7 minutes, and our food arrived. (Perfect for those of us who happened to skip breakfast. *tsk tsk*) I opted for the Three Cheese Quiche, with a side salad & pasta.
Hands down – this quiche had to be one of the best I have ever tasted. The crust was perfectly flaky, the eggs with cheese were nothing short of fluffy, gooey, cheesy goodness! Not to mention the incredible side salad. For the price (under $10,) this was the perfect lunch.
Molly opted for the Crab & Corn Bisque and a piece of pie.
When I asked her how her lunch was, she simply smiled and said, “This has to be one of my favorite soups.”
That sold me right there.
Of course the staff was wonderful, stopping by every so often to make sure we had everything we needed. We were laughing, chatting, and eating an incredible lunch… how could we not have everything we needed?
I am incredibly grateful for an opportunity to spend a nice summer afternoon with a friend, consuming some of the most delicious food in town, in such a warm and inviting restaurant!
Paul Harpin does what every local restaurant should do – He makes great food, prices it just right, and creates an atmosphere where… well, how should I put it? “Where Ladies Can Lunch.”
