Ladies Who Brunch: Empire State South
Brunch has always been one of those special times, it seems that way I suppose because we generally only brunch on the weekends.
I would add that the show “Sex and the City” did much do add to the allure of brunch. After all, much of the big news these ladies would share happened at brunch (see below):
This past weekends adventures took me to the Empire City of the South: Atlanta, Georgia.
There are a few things that make proper brunching essential:
The right handbag & outfit- this time we find my brand new (and purchased on sale!) Tory Burch clutch, my very first one. And of course, I wore a Lily Pulitzer dress (below picture of me is not from that day- but it is the same dress):
The right drinks- either the perfect coffee concoction, mimosa, or champagne. Today, we started off with Empire State South‘s Cortado: a mix of espresso and milk. And we would finish with just one glass of champagne.
The right food- today we sampled the peaches dish, served on an iron skillet with sweet onion, magenta, blueberries, romano beans, buttermilk cheese, and pecans. We also had the monkey bread, made with olive oil brioche, blueberry maple, and pecan.
After those starters, we would move on to the English Muffin, with breakfast sausage, spinach, candied bacon, egg, pepper jelly, and rice grits:
And the right company, this time my partner in crime was my friend Katie- one of those rare friends whose personal style matches and taste for foodie adventures match my own epicurean & sartorial pursuits.
If you find yourself in Atlanta, I highly recommend Empire State South. The Cortado was incredible, I didn’t even have to have sugar with it. The way the peaches were made was absolutely sublime, I’ve never had anything where the peaches were not overly sweetened but instead allowed to let their natural flavor come through. I don’t think I can ever eat a canned peach again without longing for this particular dish. I’m not even kidding. The monkey bread was the perfect companion, with just enough sweetness (and I don’t like sweet things in the mornings). And the English Muffin, with it’s perfectly poached egg, was just the right amount of substances to round out the meal.
Not only is the food at ESS amazing, but the setting itself is like an oasis within the urban iron jungle: with it’s bocce ball court and interiors constructed of repurposed wood from a historic home. Y’all might recall another post of mine, A Happy Accident: When Purse and Shoes Match, these photos were taken in that same bocce ball court:
I can assure y’all, both trips to Empire State South were perfect- and that I will be finding myself back there very soon!
Love to all y’all,
Molly
