” I Watched You Disappear”
Tomorrow night, March 18th, Dr. Anya Silver will give a poetry reading from her book ” I Watched You Disappear”. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Silver read her books on a couple of occasions. As someone who writes poetry as well, I always find myself inspired by her words and how she carefully – and seemingly effortlessly- weaves them together.
If you didn’t know this, Dr. Silver is also a cancer survivor- and many times her work reflects the loss of friends as well as the cancer she has had to face in her own body. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to face mortality head on like that- but her words give insight.
From what the LSU press has said about the book:
Passionately written and perfectly crafted, Anya Silver’s poems help us to view life through a different lens. In [her latest volume of verse, entitled] I Watched You Disappear, she offers meditations on sickness but also celebrations of art, motherhood, and family, as well as a sequence of poems based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm.
Throughout her collection, Silver examines feelings of pain, anger, and urgency caused by a serious illness and presents the struggle to cope in a lyrical and moving way. Never overwhelmed by her own mortality, Silver manages to speak with beauty and grace about a terrifying subject. Infinitely touching, engaging, and finely tuned, Silver’s poems invite us to look at the lives we love in new and profound ways.
If you would like to attend this event it is tomorrow night, March 18th, 7:30 pm at the McCorkle Music Building on Mercer University’s campus.
Love to all y’all,
Molly
