A Game for the History Books
It’s taken me a couple days (well more like a week now) because I’m still in awe of the game that I witnessed on Monday night. To say that it was one of the best championship games in college basketball history is an understatement.
The atmosphere at NRG was palpable. You could tell from both the UNC fans and the Villanova fans that they were excited to be there. This was Villanova’s first national championship since 1985, when they played defending national champion Georgetown and upset them. UNC fans, had more of a been there done that, got that tshirt attitude (they’ve been in 5 national championship games, the last being in ’09 when they beat Michigan State in the title game)
Of course, you had the fashions, the two guys above being my favorite and total nominee for best dressed. I mean Carolina blue tuxes? YES. Villanova fans weren’t quite as dressed up since you know, they’re a Northern school. 🙂
We got to our seats, and to say I was thrilled, was an understatement. Call me crazy, but I always much prefer to sit up a little higher because I like to see the entire game and see plays develop, and these seats were PERFECTION. Don’t get me wrong, I would have loved to be able to booze & schmooze with the likes of Michael Jordan and other UNC greats, but I was happy as a clam sitting up top being able to watch and analyze the game.
The championship game was heads and shoulders better than the final four games on Saturday. It was literally the epitome of what a championship game should be. One team never truly dominates, the lead continuously switches, the competition is a fair match, and the atmosphere was INSANE. It was very much, my dream version of my happy place. And the last minute, oh the last minute of the game, I was in heaven.
To say I had fun last Monday doesn’t even begin to describe the experience I had. There is nothing quite like a national championship game, whether it’s basketball, football, or even baseball. The excitement is tangible, the fans are hardcore, it’s just an absolute fun place to be. And if you get a chance to go to a national championship game, go. It is worth every. single. penny.
Until next time y’all,
Katie
