“Fincher’s was definitely memorable, and there will be more visits in store for me!” Aneesha Reddicks

Despite the terrible weather Central Georgia faced this past Friday, a few girlfriends joined me for lunch. We made our way to Houston Avenue, where the original Fincher’s BBQ establishment still remains, a tried and true institution. Having grown up going to ‘that place that sent BBQ to the moon’, I knew my lunch mates were in for a treat. Fincher’s no fuss atmosphere keeps patrons coming back for more and makes proper fans of first timers with the last bite of a ‘pork special.’

Aneesha Reddicks reflects on her first time experience: “Fincher’s is like an odd time warp. The diner feel was comfy, and the amazing smells seeping from the kitchen in the back invited us in like a greeting at the front door. The food was great alone, but Mrs. Alice made the whole experience even better.”

Indeed, Mrs. Alice Fincher has had a front row seat to most, if not all, of the great moments that have defined the family restaurant. Her hospitable manner is evident to all who visit Fincher’s. Ask her to share a special memory and prepare to be transported to what seems like another lifetime. She told stories of Fincher’s in the 50’s – ‘teenagers would show off their cars and order a coke just to mingle and chat in the drive-in to before it got dark.” Jake Fincher, owner with his brother Doug, remarked that his mother was definitely the “face of Fincher’s.” Fincher’s BBQ has a rich history of community appreciation; this year alone continuing Fincher’s was voted “Best Barbecue” and came in second to The Rookery for “Best Burger” at the 11th Hour Reader Choice Awards. If you are tired of life’s hustle, make your way to a Fincher’s BBQ joint to enjoy some great food and even better company.
