Historic Macon’s Design, Wine, & Dine festival was one of my favorite events last year. Now, it has expanded to include the biennial Designer’s Showcase House.
Tonight we have the Preview Party at Travis Jean gallery- and you can have a lil sneak peek of tomorrow night’s L. Windham Designs trunk show.
There are still tickets available for tonight’s event and I am thrilled to be attending. It’s from seven until ten pm, tickets are $100, and you can buy them at the door if you haven’t purchased them in advance.
The Design House (formerly Decorators’ Showhouse) will be on tour this evening as a sneak peek before it opens to the public. You will also have the chance to hobnob with the celebrity chefs and presenters- and there will be live entertainment as well!
There will be sessions during the day Friday as well, but I wanted to go ahead and talk about Saturday night. That’s the night of the Chef’s Table with Andy Husbands of Tremont 647 and Sister Sorel in Boston. And I had the pleasure to speak to him and give y’all some previews about that event!
Molly: I see you are leading a chef’s dinner Saturday March 7th, the menu is listed on Historic Macon’s website [link here]. Can you give us some insight on why you picked these menu items?
Andy Husbands: The demo I am doing is from my latest book, Grill to Perfection, a couple of tuna and easy recipes to do on your grill along with my favorite chocolate dessert; chocolate pudding cake… Wood cookery is my passion and I love the discussion about how to grill and and all of the ins and outs of live fire cooking.
For the dinner: I did the two regions I am most passionate about: foods from the South, as all as, New England. I thought it would be fun for true Southerners to see my interpretation of Southern food along with what we traditionally to in New England (We’ve spent the last day cooking lobsters and shucking clams…. just for Macon.
Molly: On a whole other topic, I’ve read that you are involved with the charitable organization Share Our Strength- an organization working to end childhood hunger. Why are you passionate about ending childhood hunger?
AH: I’ve been affiliated with Share Our Strength for over 20 years, alleviating childhood hunger is something that we all can agree should happen. As a person in the food service industry feeding people comes naturally and helping those in need, especially children just seems right.
Molly: This is your second year in Macon, can we assume you would come back next year if asked? Did you get to do any sightseeing while you were here last time?
AH: I was there during an art walk and was fortunate enough to see lots of local artists and their work, it was truly wonderful, I also spent time walking around and seeing all of the really cool architecture, so different than Boston, and the best thing is it’s not covered in snow.
I am honored to cook in Macon and If I can make it a yearly habit, that’s great by me!
So be sure to grab your tickets for Saturday night! Seating is EXTREMELY limited, and I hope to see y’all tonight!
Love to all y’all,
Molly
