Celebrate the Paint- and a Friend

How many of you were a part of the Benjamin Moore “Paint What Matters” contest that Macon won? I would imagine a good many of you were:

Well, if you haven’t been downtown lately then you might not know that the painting has started. Second street is being given that Benjamin Moore makeover- and it’s just one of the things helping our city to look brighter.

And NOW it’s time for the party!!!

This Saturday, Benjamin Moore and Main Street Macon are hosting the Benjamin More ” Main Street Matters” Celebration Event.  This will unveil the work that has been done all along Second Street, well, between Mulberry and Poplar to be specific. There will be Amanda’s Cakery Cake, music, giveaways AND a scavenger hunt!!!

I can’t believe I’m going to be out of town during this y’all…. it will be this Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The cake cutting will be held at 11:00 am by the Confederate Monument (maybe I can drive back from the beach just for this? and go back?).

From the press release: “Benjamin Moore launched Main Street Matters in May 2013 as a commitment to revitalizing Main Streets across North America. It’s a symbol of our commitment to the incredible dealer network and to the communities that have supported our success for the past 130 years. Twenty cities were selected through an online voting contest and the projects will be underway until its completion in June 2014. For additional information, please visit paintwhatmatters.com.”

This is also, perhaps appropriately enough, Main Street Macon’s directors swan song of sorts. Mechel McKinley will be leaving to go to Stone Mountain to be their Downtown Development Authority Director. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mechel on a number of projects, and I hate that I can’t be around for this to celebrate with her and the city- our city- that she has helped to make better.

So, please go in my place- celebrate the paint and all that is great about Macon- and give my friend the farewell she deserves.

Love to all y’all,

Molly
