Mother’s Day Isn’t Easy

Mother’s Day isn’t easy.

Kids won’t cooperate. There’s puke somewhere in the house. He pulled her hair, she hit him, BOTH and NEITHER of them started it.

You never get to pee in peace.

Showers generally get interrupted at some point.

Many of us don’t make as much money as our male counterparts, and we many times get held back for promotions at work when we do bring male or female lives into this world.

As a friend who recently suffered a miscarriage pointed out in her blog, the very word “miscarriage” means to carry badly– as if it’s the mother’s fault when the pregnancy doesn’t last.

And yet, we keep doing it. Every mother I know would not trade all of the above for anything.

Because we get the smiles.

The love.

The hugs and kisses.

It’s called a sacrifice but we do it gladly, because they come from us. No matter how long you carry your child inside of you, there is some instinct that kicks in to protect and love them.

No matter how long they are with us in the present, even if they are Rainbow Children in the sky, they are by our sides.

We call one day a year Mother’s Day, but the reality is- we’re mothers every day. And every day is a celebration of that, even in the small ways.

This is for all of y’all. Those who have children here, those whose children aren’t here- for whatever reason. Those who’s mother’s aren’t with us anymore and those who get to talk to them whenever they wish.

For my babies, who made me Mommy. And for my Mom, of who my earliest memory of her is when I was a little thing, upset about something, and she would always sing “You Are My Sunshine” me.

Love to all y’all,

Molly
