1, 2, 3, 4…. I Declare a Petit Four War {Round 1}

Petit Fours.

Anyone who has lived in Macon at least, gosh, maybe 15 or 20 years will remember Waldorf’s Bakery. First in it’s itty bitty location on Vineville Avenue near what is now The Big House Museum, it would close and then later re-open down the road for oh not long enough.

I remember them well, these small little bites of heaven with their classic flowers on the top- yellow and pink and blue options.

Later we would have Petite Sweets in The Prado shopping center, with their purple colored building and boxes. We would love them when either the husband or wife (can’t remember which) was offered a better job being an engineer in Atlanta. And we all dried our tears yet again over spilled confections.

There’s not any one King or Queen of the Petit Fours now. We have a few places that carry them, and when Wilson’s Bakery opened up a counter in Hoyt’s Meats I thought it might be high time to revisit some of them.

Today I am featuring one you likely have not heard of- LaKejona’s Bakery. I stumbled across this unknown gem a little over a year ago when I decided to early vote. LaKejona’s makes the most incredible petit fours. Holy Jesus. I didn’t even realize they were petit fours when I first saw them, I simply saw them listed on the menu and asked where they were- thinking they were out.

Oh no. They weren’t out- they were just not in the usual format. No cute little flowers. Not the usual, small rectangular shape.

More of a snowflake shape, and they’re huge.

I’m not going to even say how much they cost because how inexpensive they were was nearly as much of a sin as how damn good they were. The icing was just sweet enough to not over power, and the cake was unbelievably moist.  Even at 10:00 pm at night- because yes I caved and had to go ahead and eat the last one. Workout be damned!!!

LaKejona’s only drawback is they keep some odd hours, being open from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm on Pio Nono Avenue from Monday until Friday. But if the fact that I went back three different time to get these petit fours says anything- well, it should just say something.

But this is just the very first of other places I will be sacrificing my waist line for the review for y’all… time to start saving up the calories now!

Love to all y’all
